    A day of wins.....nearly.
Only Bobby Robson's team, at the
opening match of the 1986 World Cup Finals, failed to win, against Portugal.
	Both Alf Ramsey's
team and Ron Greenwood's team beat Northern Ireland sixteen years apart. Walter Winterbottom's side just about overcame
Austria, and Roy Hodgson's team was overseeing his team's victory in Lithuania. Gareth
Southgate's team beat World number one Belgium, and Sven-Göran Eriksson's
side beat Poland. The ISC had two attempts at their 45th match, the first
being the Ibrox Disaster match, the second, the 2-2 draw with Scotland. Both Eriksson and Hodgson benefitted from own goals in
	their victories. |
