"ONLY CIGARETTES |
...Burglars' Poor Haul at Home of Former Footballer. "Although Joe Bache, the well-known
ex-footballer, formerly of Aston Villa, who now keeps the Travellers'
Rest, near Aston Cross, Birmingham, was visited by burglars on Friday
night, so far as can be ascertained at present nothing was taken except
about 200 cigarettes. It appears that between nine and ten o'clock, when
the inn was at its busiest, the burglars forced one of the back windows of
the private apartments, climbing on the flat roof above the smoke room to
do so. When Mr. Bache went upstairs after closing time, he found articles
of clothing strewn all over the floors; but all the money was in the safe,
which had not been touched. Mr. Bache thinks that the intruders must have
been disturbed." -
