According to the 1881 census, Thomas is a scholar, the fifth of six children to James and Emma (née Tunnicliffe), living at Rose Cottage in Bycars. His father is a coal miner.

 

According to the 1891 census, Thomas remains with his parents, at a home in Bycars (probably Rose Cottage), he is the fourth of the five children in the return. His father remains a coal miner.

 

His father died in 1900.
According to the 1901 census, Baddeley was now officially registered as a Professional Footballer, he, alongside fellow footballer George Fleming, a Scot, were boarding with Alfred and Harriet Munn at 38 Clifton Street, Wolverhampton.

  "Tom Baddeley, the Wolverhampton Wanderers and English international goalkeeper, was married at Burslem yesterday to Miss Winnie Blackham, of Dudley." - Liverpool Daily Post & Mercury, Thursday, 29 December 1904.
"Thomas Baddeley was married on Wednesday morning to Miss Annie Blackham, of Dudley. The marriage took place at Sneyd Church, Burslem." - County Advertiser, Saturday, 31 December 1904.
Children Tom and Annie Baddeley had three sons together. Sydney, Thomas (b.1907) and Tom (b.19 May 1912)
  "Tom Baddeley, Wolverhampton Wanderers' clever goalkeeper, is a coal merchant. His business is at Burslem, from which place he travels every Saturday to guard the Wanderers' citadel. He has missed the train more than once." - Sports Argus, Saturday, 20 October 1906.
 

Evidently, their son, Thomas, had died 14 January 1910, aged just three years old. 
According to the 1911 census, Baddeley had married Phoebe Anne, with one son, Sydney, living at Rose Cottage, in the Bycars Road in Burslem. Tom was working as a Potters Turner.

 

His mother died in 1919.
According to the 1921 census, Thomas, now a beer seller, is still married, and they have one more son, Tom, and with one servant, they live at The Dolphin Inn, 55 High Street in Burslem.

  At the Burslem Police Court to-day—before Mr. N. Parkes (presiding), Mr. Sydney Malkin, Ald. W. J. Brown and Mr. J. Booth—the following applications for the temporary transfer of licenses were granted:—
Dolphin Inn, High-street, Burslem, from Thomas Baddeley to Leonard Smallwood."

"Mr. Tom Baddeley ...Friends of Mr. Tom Baddeley, of Burslem, the former Port Vale, Wolverhampton Wanderers and international goalkeeper, will regret to hear that he is lying ill in the London-road Hospital, having undergone two operations, from which he is slowly recovering." - The Evening Sentinel, Monday, 5 September 1938.
  According to the 1939 register, Thomas and Ann are still married, still living at Rose Cottage in Bycars, with their son, Thomas. Thomas senior is unemployed.
This register gives Baddeley a birthday a day sooner (30 October).
"Former Vale Player ...Sympathetic reference to the illness of Mr. Tom Baddeley, of Burslem, the former Wolves and England goalkeeper, was made at a meeting of the Burslem Brotherhood yesterday. On inquiry at the London-road Hospital to-day, where Mr. Baddeley is a patient, it was learned that he is still very poorly, but had had a comfortable night." - The Evening Sentinel, Monday, 19 March 1945.
Death Tuesday evening, 24 September 1946 at Stoke-on-Trent City Hospital, Newcastle Road, in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire.

"DEATH OF MR. T. BADDELEY FAMOUS GOALKEEPER.
"We regret to record the death of Mr. Tom Baddeley, the old Port Vale, Wolverhampton Wanderers and England goalkeeper, of Rose Cottage, Bycars-road, Burslem, which took place in the Stoke-on-Trent City Hospital last night." - The Evening Sentinel, Wednesday, 25 September 1946.

"DEATH OF TOM BADDELEY.
"Tom Baddeley, capped four times for England as a goalkeeper, has died at Stoke-on-Trent, aged 71. He played for Port Vale, and afterwards for 12 seasons with Wolverhampton Wanderers, finishing his career with Bradford Park Avenue. Baddeley was born at Burslem. He kept goal for his school and Burslem Swifts before joining Port Vale when he was 18 years old. About 1896 he was transferred to the Wolves for a fee of £40. He got an early chance with the first eleven, and for eight seasons he never missed a game. He was appointed Wolves' captain in 1898 and held the position until he left Molineux to join Bradford Park Avenue. He remained three seasons with the Yorkshire club, and then returned to Burslem to work. In 1904, when he married a Dudley girl, the Wolves supporters gave him a gold watch, and the club added a chain and medal with the permission of the F.A. His one benefit with Wolves yielded him £75." - Birmingham Gazette, Thursday, 26 September 1946.

The funeral took place at Stoke-on-Trent this afternoon of Mr. Tom Baddeley, aged 71, of Rose Cottage, Bycars'-road, Burslem. Principal mourners were Mr. Sydney Baddeley and Mr. Tom Baddeley (sons), Mrs. Sydney Baddley (daughter-in-law), Mr. T. Baddeley and Mr. P. Baddeley (grandchildren), Mrs. Mellor (niece), Mr. James Mason, Mr. G. Price, Mr. G. M. Hargreaves. Mr. J. Pritchard and Mr. G. Kearns. Representing Wolves were Mr. F. J. Somerville and Mr. F. E. Playing Career


Club(s)
Started his career with Burslem Swifts FC and joined Burslem Port Vale FC in 1892, in which he dropped from the Football League to the Midland League, he was signed by Wolverhampton Wanderers FC in 1897 for £40, becoming club captain the season after. Baddeley moved to newly-formed Bradford FC on 28 May 1907 and was appointed captain for the following season on 19 August 1908. Then finally joined Stoke FC of the Birmingham & District League, on 24 March 1910. He retired in May 1911, but not before playing a few games for rivals, Whitfield Colliery FC.
