Playing Career

Club(s)
Started his career playing schoolboy football in his hometown, before joining CPC Sports FC. Signed amateur forms with Southampton FC in early 1962, signing his first professional contract on 6 September in that year. Midway through the 1967-68 season, Chivers handed in a transfer request and after rejecting Stoke City FC, he joined Tottenham Hotspur FC on 10 January 1968 for an £80,000 transfer fee+Frank Saul, finally sanctioned by the Football League five days later. Joined Swiss side Servette FC on 1 July 1976 for £50,000 after three weeks of negotiations. Returned to England when he joined Norwich City FC on 15 June 1978 for a £25,000 transfer fee, after John Bond had attempted to bring him there three years earlier. Brighton & Hove Albion FC then paid £15,000 on 21 March 1979 for his signature. After turning down an opportunity to play for Port Vale FC, he was appointed as Southern League's Dorchester Town player/manager in March 1980, effective 1 July, resigning on 19 December that year. After a spell in Norway, with Vard, Chivers had a spell with Barnet FC in October 1982, before retiring before the end of the year.
