Sherwood signed professionally with
Watford FC
from a
trainee on 7 February 1987. After making his debut the following season,
Sherwood completed 32 league division two appearances and scored
twice before he signed for Norwich City FC on 18 July
1989 for £175,000, where he made another 71 league
appearances, scoring ten goals. Kenny Dalglish then made him one
his first signings for the Blackburn Rovers FC revolution on 12 February
1992 for £500,000, despite having agreed a deal with Derby County FC
earlier in the day. He completed 246 league appearances,
scoring 25 goals. An unsettled Sherwood then signed for Tottenham Hotspur FC for
£3.8 million on
5 February 1999, making another 93 Premier League appearances,
scoring another twelve goals. After a personality clash with
his manager, Glenn Hoddle, Sherwood was transferred to Portsmouth FC on 29 January 2003 on a free
transfer, helping them into the Premier League at the end of the season. After
he broke his leg in December 2003, following one goal in thirty
league outings, he was released in June 2004,
afterwhich he signed
for Peter Reid's Coventry City FC on 9 July. His contract was terminated on
1 July 2005 through mutual consent after eleven league
appearances, and he never played again. |
