According to the 1891 census, Albert is the oldest of three children to Thomas and Martha Jane (née Wood), living at 75 St. Mark's Street in Hanley. His father is a potter's printer.
According to his 1899 Attestation, Albert, a potter, living at 17 Stanhope Street, joined the North Staffordshire Regiment (The Prince of Wales'), joining on 21 April. According to later reports, he was "bought out" 24 hours later!

 

According to the 1901 census, [Albert] is now the oldest of five children, now living at 17 Stanhope Street in Hanley. Both [Albert] and his brother, as well as his father are working at the pottery. He and Edwain are pressers, his father remains a printer.

Children Albert and Amelia Sturgess have four children together. Albert (b.25 November 1903), Amelia Lily (b.1908), Cyril Richmond (b.8 July 1909) and Beatrice (b.1911).
 

According to the 1911 census, Albert is a professional footballer, married to Amelia with three children, Albert, Cyril and Amelia. They live at 25 Bruce Road in the Ecclesall Bierlow area of Sheffield.

  According to the 1921 census, Albert, now an out-of-work steel roller for Brown Bayleys Steelworks, has taken his family (his wife and three children) to Blackpool. They are at 89 High Street in the town, home of the Caddy's.
  His father died in early 1935.
According to the 1939 register, Albert, a china shop keeper, and Amelia are still married, living at 898 Ecclesall Road in Sheffield, with their son, Albert and his wife.

"Former English international and Stoke footballer, Mr. Albert Sturgess died at his home, 898, Eccleshall-road, Sheffield, yesterday at the age of 73. He played right-half for Stoke in the First Division in the years before the 1914-18 War. Playing Career


Club(s)
At the age of twelve, Sturgess joined the North Staffs Volunteers as a bugler. Began his junior football career with Tunstall Cresswells FC before joining Stoke FC in 1903 as a professional and a centre-forward. He settled in the back line, and even kept goal for the reserves as they competed in the Birmingham League. Sheffield United FC signed Sturgess, along with teammate, George Gallimore, on 15 June 1908, for a 'heavy fee', despite interest from Aston Villa FC. During the war, he was guesting for Hull City AFC, however, he remained with the Bramall Lane club until 25 July 1923, when he signed for Norwich City FC as captain, playing as a left-back. Retired two years later.
