Match Report Press Association, Durban, Wednesday, as appearing in The Morning Post, Thursday, 30 June 1910

Perfect conditions prevailed for the first international match of the English Football Association team's tour, played here this afternoon against South Africa, the weather was delightfully fine, with a pleasant breeze blowing. The ground was in good order, and the game was fast and keenly contested throughout. The spectators numbered over 5,000.
The South Africans won the toss, but right from the start the Englishmen pressed vigorously, and the Colonial goal was frequently in danger. Martin made many fine saves, but he was eventually beaten by a lightning-like shot from Hibbert, which gave him no chance. At the interval, England led by 1 goal to 0.
After the change of ends the visitors continued to have the better of matters. They showed capital combination, and were almost always pressing, but their attacks were frequently spoiled by the smart individual work. After a time Hibbert headed through from a pass by Wall, and the latter player was mainly instrumental in scoring the third goal, which likewise was headed into the net by Hibbert.
The Colonials occasionally broke away, but they failed to make the most of their opportunities near goal, and towards the end the Englishmen attacked hotly, Martin being frequently called upon to save his charge. Nothing further was scored, and the Englishmen won by 3 goals to 0. The visitors gave a scientific display, and their combination was greatly superior to that of their opponents. On the whole, the English team were not seriously extended. Wedlock, Wall, and Hibbert played an admirable game, and Benson's defence was well nigh impenetrable. The South Africans gave a creditable display, but their attacks lacked sting. Martin and Ford showed excellent form.
