According to the 1891 census, George is the sixth of eight children to John and Elizabeth (née Davison). They live at 28 Well's Row in Boldon Colliery. His father is a coal miner.
On the occasion of their 65th wedding anniversary in 1933, and then John's 94th birthday in 1936, it is stated that they had been fourteen children.

 

According to the 1901 census, George remains one of six remaining at home at their parents at 26 Well's Row. George is a coal mine driver, whilst his father is a hewer.

Children George and Isabella Wall have seven children together. John Robert (b.October 1903), Margaret (b.31 May 1906), George (b.16 June 1908), Leslie (b.9 September 1912), Edna (b.9 December 1913), Eric (b.16 September 1916) and another.

Their eldest son, John Robert, died shortly after his birth in October 1903.
According to the 1911 census, George is a professional footballer, now married to Isabella and they have three children, John, Margaret and George. The have one servant and one boarder, United club mate, Thomas Percy Homer. They live at 41 Railway Road in the Old Trafford area of Manchester.
Wall enlisted with the Black Watch on 5 July 1915, whilst living at 11 Clifton Street in Old Trafford. Trained in Tain, Scotland. Moved to Catterick base in October that year. His brother, Thomas, was killed in action in Belgium, 9 October 1917.

According to the 1921 census, George, a professional footballer for Hamilton Academical FC, is still married, and with three more children, Leslie, Edna and Eric, they live at 27 Barford Street in Old Trafford with their two older children.
"EX-MINE WORKER'S DEATH AT 95
"THE death of Mr. John Wall, of Aged Miners' Cottages, Boldon Colliery, in his 95th year, has deprived Boldon of one of its oldest and most highly esteemed residents. Mr Wall, who was born at Hetton-le-Hole, worked for 10 years at Corbet and Dixon's Rope Factory at the Teams, Gateshead, prior to coming to Boldon 63 years ago. At Boldon he was employed as a colliery rope-man, a position he filled until his retirement 22 years ago. His son is George Wall, a prominent English footballer."

According to the 1939 register, George and Isabella remain married and are living at 4 Croston Street in Stretford area of Manchester. He is a casual checker on the Manchester Ship Canal.
His mother died in October 1942.

"GEORGE WALL is dead. And neighbours just round the corner from Old Trafford were to-day mourning one of the great names in Manchester United's history. For George, aged 77, of Croston-street, Old Trafford won an F.A. Cup final medal and eight full international caps during his playing days on the left wing for the Reds." - Manchester Evening News, Saturday, 31 March 1962.

Playing Career


Club(s)
Began his football career with Boldon Royal Rovers FC, before joining Whitburn FC for a season. Joined Jarrow FC in 1902, before Barnsley FC signed him and James Sylph on 24 November 1903. Then, following the fixture between the two sides in which Wall scored Barnsley's only goal, Manchester United FC, who had scored five, signed him on 31 March 1906 for a £175 transfer fee. Joined Oldham Athletic FC in March 1919 for a £200 fee. Following twelve goals in 74 league appearances, Wall joined Hamilton Academical FC on 23 June 1921, and onto Rochdale AFC a season later, before joining Ashton National FC in 1923.
