Played schoolboy football
in Yorkshire, as well as captaining Yorkshire schools. Played local
football with Ecclesfield FC and Worksop Town FC. He joined the
Huddersfield Town FC groundstaff in 1930, and earned a professional
contract in November 1931. He remained with them,
he made 247 league appearances, scoring four
goals, until he joined
Sunderland AFC in December 1945. Another
fourteen league appearances followed before he joined Leeds United AFC signed him on
3 March
1947 as their playing-coach. After 35 league
appearances, he retired from playing in May 1948. |
