Squad details correct up to
and including Scotland's match against Czech Republic on 14 June 2021. Tallies from
SFA
Diary
Sunday, 25 April 2021 - The Scottish National
Team will base themselves at Middlesbrough FCs Rockliffe training complex
for the duration of the European Championships. Steve Clarke's side tweice
play at Hampden Park in Glasgow, but their usual training centre, at Oriam
near Edinburgh, was booked by the Czech team before Scotland were able to
qualify themselves. Clarke wants the best 'possible training facilities
available' and is delighted that Scotland have been able to secure a spot
near Darllington.
Tuesday, 4 May 2021 - Teams will be allowed to
select a 26-player squad instead of 23 at this summer's delayed European
Championship Finals. The change has been implemented to lessen the load on
players after a club season compressed because of the coronavirus
pandemic. It will also help managers adapt if outbreaks occur during the
tournament.
Wednesday, 19 May 2021 -
Scotland
manager has sprung a surprise by including uncapped trio Billy Gilmour,
Nathan Patterson and David Turnbull in his 26-man squad for Euro 2020. The
three are under-21 internationals but have never been previously
called-up. Liam Cooper, Greg Taylor and Kevin Nisbet are also included in
Scotland's first major tournament since 1998. Scotland depart for a
warm-weather training camp in La Finca, Spain on 27 May.
Friday, 28 May 2021 -
The Scotland Squad have
their first training session is underway in La Finca Resort, in the
Algorfa area of Alicante, South-East Spain.
Billy Gilmour is the only exemption, as he is with his club on Champions
League duty in Portugal.
Saturday, 29 May 2021 - The Czech Republic squad have decided
to base themselves back in Prague instead of the Oriam Training Centre
near Edinburgh for the duration of the European Championships. However,
the SFA are unlikely to scrap its own six months of preparations at its
squad's base at Rockliffe with only a week before they are scheduled to
move in.
Monday, 31 May 2021, evening -
The Squad numbers that the Scottish team will be wearing throughout the
Tournament are released.
Tuesday, 1 June 2021 -
Sheffield United's midfielder John Fleck has tested positive for Covid19
at the teams base in La Finca. The 29 year-old midfielder is asymptomatic
but has to quarantine for ten days - or until he records two negative
tests - in accordance with Spanish health protocols. The SFA confirmed that the rest of the squad recorded negative
results after being retested.
Wednesday, 2 June 2021 -
A further six players will miss tonight's friendly against the Netherlands
due to CoVid-19 fears following John Fleck's positive test. David
Marshall, Stephen O'Donnell, Nathan Patterson, Grant Hanley, John McGinn
and Ché Adams have not travelled with the squad to Portugal. They
have all tested negative but have been kept back as a precaution. However,
it does leave Steve Clarke with just nineteen players for the first of two
Euro 2020 warm-up games. Netherlands 2 Scotland 2
- Depleted Scotland continued their Euro 2020 preparations in positive
fashion, despite Memphis Depay's late free-kick denying them victory over
the Netherlands in Portugal. Shorn of seven players, Steve Clarke's side
defied any early concerns when Jack Hendry drilled in to cap a fine start.
Depay swept home a composed first time shot to level, then arced in a
stunning set piece in the final moments after substitute Kevin Nisbet
scored with his first touch to restore Scotland's lead.
Sunday, 6
June 2021 - Luxembourg 0 Scotland 1 -
Billy Gilmour's sparkling cameo
briefly lit up a routine win over 10-man Luxembourg in Scotland's final
warm-up game for Euro 2020. The 19 year-old midfielder, a half-time
substitute, impressed with composure and skill in his second cap before a
heavy challenge forced him off as a precaution for the final fifteen
minutes. Ché Adams slotted Scotland's early opener before Lyndon
Dykes was pulled back by Vahid Selimovic on the edge of the box to earn
the defender a 34th minute dismissal.
Wednesday, 9 June 2021
-
The Scotland squad arrive at their new base, Rockliffe Park, near
Darlington.
Monday, 14 June 2021 - Scotland 0 Czech Republic
2
- Scotland's first match at a major final tournament in 23 years ended in
anguish after Patrik Schick's incredible halfway-line goal helped the
Czech Republic inflict a deflating opening Euro 2020 defeat at Hampden
Park. Around 9,000 fans witnessed Schick open the scoring with a
first-half header. Scotland had their chances, striking the bar, but a
first foray beyond the group stage already looks a tough task.
Wednesday, 16 June 2021 -
Kieran Tierney says 'it's touch and go' whether he will be fit for
Scotland's Group D match against England on Friday. He has already missed
the opening match against Czech Republic, and his manager Steve Clarke
said Tierney had 'a chance' of making the fixture. Tierney told reporters
that a decision would be made tomorrow afternoon, or sometime before the
game.
