Diary
Tuesday, 4 May 2021 - Teams will be allowed to
select a 26-player squad instead of 23 at this summer's delayed European
Championship Finals. The change has been implemented to lessen the load on
players after a club season compressed because of the coronavirus
pandemic. It will also help managers adapt if outbreaks occur during the
tournament.
Tuesday, 25 May 2021 -
Sparta Prague's teenager Adam Hložek was named in the Czech
Republic's squad for the European Championship. The 18 year old forward is the
youngest player on the team announced by coach Jaroslav Šilhavý. Hložek missed
several games in the Czech League this season due to injury but still scored
eleven goals and set up another seven in his 18 appearances. He also became the
youngest player to score a hat-trick in the competition. The squad is
spearheaded by West Ham's Tomáš Souček and Vladimír Coufal. However, former
captain, Bořek Dočkal, was dropped. He is however, in a group of 17
reserve players.
Thursday, 27 May 2021 -
Michal Sadílek has been added to
the European Championship squad. He played in the Under-21 European Championship
matches and will be the only Czech player to be participating in both
Tournaments. The decision was delayed while the coach awaited the outcome of
Ondřej Kúdela's appeal against his ten match suspension, upheld by UEFA.
Saturday, 29 May 2021 -
The Czech Republic squad have decided to base themselves back in Prague instead
of the Oriam Training Centre near Edinburgh for the duration of the European
Championships. The original decision had meant Scotland had to base themselves
near Darlington, using the facilities of Middlesbrough FC. However, the Czechs
have now announced "We will fly to each of our group stage matches separately."
Blaming their decision on the Covid19 restrictions and rues in Scotland. "One
positively tested member of the team would mean quarantine for the whole team as
Scotland's restrictions say right now." The Czechs suggest Scotland's rules
conflict with 'UEFA return to play protocols'. They have yet to find new
accommodation, or training facilities in their homeland.
Monday,
31 May 2021 -
The Czech Republic squad arrive at Vals in South Tyrol and begin their training
sessions. All team members had negative CoVid19 tests before their departure
from Prague.
Friday, 4 June 2021 -
After a week of training at Vals, the Czech team face Italy in the first of
their two friendly matches. However, Adam Hložek, Tomáš Kalas and Tomáš
Holes, are out of the matchday squad because of their injuries. Italy
4 Czech Republic 0 -
Italy brushed aside the Czech Republic in their final Euro 2020 warm-up game in
Bolgona for an eighth consecutive win without conceding a goal. Italy have not
lost a game since 2018. Coach Jaroslav Šilhavý said after the
match: "It was a bad performance and a bad result. It was probably the worst
performance since I'm in charge of the national team. We were under big pressure
due to our own mistakes and a lack of activity. We will analyse the match and I
hope we will bounce back."
Tuesday, 8 June 2021 - Czech Republic 3
Albania 1 -
The Czech Republic beat Albania in their final warm-up match ahead of their
opening Euro 2020 match with Scotland. Bayern Munich's Patrick Schick got the
opener for the hosts in Zlin but Sokol Cikalleshi levelled. Lukáš Masopust and
Slavia Prague teammate Ondrej Čelůstka netted for Jaroslav Šilhavý's side after
the break. Šilhavý said "It wasn't without mistakes and everything
wasn't in order, but the difference compared to the match with Italy was obvious
and it is a very good finding for me. I believe that the next few days and more
training sessions will help us tune iten better so that we are ready for the
first Euro match."
Thursday, 10 June 2021 - The Czech
squad return to training at Stadionžena Rošického in Prague, their base for
the tournament, watched by the new Czech FA chairman Petr Fousek.
Saturday, 12 June 2021 - The Czech national team
travel to Glasgow for their opening Euro 2020 match with goalkeeper Jiří Pavlenka, who has had
to leave the squad and the Tournament because of a back injury. Tomáš Koubek
will join up with the squad after the team return to Prague on Monday.
Sunday, 13 June 2021 - The squad are training in
Glasgow, using the facilities at Hampden Park.
Monday, 14 June
2021 - Scotland 0 Czech Republic 2 -
Scotland's first match at a major final tournament in 23 years ended in
anguish after Patrik Schick's incredible halfway-line goal helped the Czech
Republic inflict a deflating opening Euro 2020 defeat at Hampden Park. Around
9,000 fans witnessed Schick open the scoring with a first-half header. Scotland
had their chances, striking the bar, but a first foray beyond the group stage
already looks a tough task.
Wednesday, 16 June 2021 - Tomáš Koubek
has joined up with the rest of the Czech squad and training in Prague.
Thursday, 17 June 2021 -
The Czech squad are training in a hot and sunny Prague before departing for
Glasgow in the afternoon.
Friday, 18 June 2021 - Croatia 1 Czech
Republic 1
- The Czech's took a huge step towards qualifying for the knockout stages with
an entertaining draw against Croatia at Hampden Park. The Czech's opened the
scoring through a controversial first-half Patrik Schick penalty, after the
referee consulted the pitchside monitor following a Dejan Lovern foul on Schick.
Ivan Perišić equalised two minutes after the restart with a fine individual
effort.
Monday, 21 June 2021 -
The Czech Republic squad leave Prague for London and hold a training session as
Wembley Stadium during the evening.
