Diary
Friday, 20 May 2022 - Head
Coach Roberto Mancini has named 53 players to attend a training session at
Centro Tecnico Federale in Coverciano for three days for him to evaluate.
The session marks the beginning of a collaboration between the FIGC, the
Italian League and its clubs, with the aim of facilitating the transition
from youth to senior level and expanding the base of eligible players. The
squad, divided into two groups, comprise of 29 Serie A players, 18 from
Serie B, and six who ply they trade abroad. Despite the large number, it
still does not include players that will be included in the Serie B
play-offs.
Monday, 23 May 2022 -
Roberto Mancini has named 39 players. Italy are engaged in five matches in
fifteen days, starting with Argentina at Wembley, before embarking on four
Nations League matches. The players will join up on Friday with the
exception of the Roma players, who because of their participation in the
UEFA Europa Conference League Final, will join up on Sunday and will not
be involved in the match at Wembley. There are first call-ups for Andrea
Pinamonti and David Frettesi, whilst Gianluca Caprari is recalled after a
three year absence. Giorgio Chiellini has already announced that he will
retire from international football after the match at Wembley against
Argentina.
Tuesday, 24 May 2022 -
The future stars of the Azzurri begin training at Coverciano under the
guidance of Roberto Mancini. They remain until Thursday.
Thursday, 26 May 2022 -
As a result of the training sessions over the last few days, Roberto
Mancini has summoned six players—Federico Gatti, Salvatore Esposito,
Samuele Ricci, Matteo Cancellieri, Wilfried Gnonto and Alessio Zerbin—to
the Centro Tecnico Federale in Coverciano. Giorgio Scalvini and Tommaso
Pobega have also been called up. The 47 players will report to the
CTF tomorrow and remain until May 31, when they leave for London.
The day before they leave, Mancini will release a list of players for the
match at Wembley Stadium, and a list of players who will return to the CTF
on 2 June.

The five Roma players that enjoyed success in the UEFA European Conference
League in Tiranë on Wednesday have joined the squad in Coverciano.

Following Giorgio Chiellini's final press conference
as Italy captain, the Azzurri had a training session at the CTF. At the
end of training, Roberto Mancini announced the list of thirty players to
take part in the Finalissima. The remaining players will rest and return
on Wednesday evening. The thirty-man squad will leave for London tomorrow
morning and train at Wembley in the afternoon.
The Squad: Goalkeepers-Cragno, Donnarumma, Gollini, Meret, and the injured
Sirigu; Defenders-Di Lorenzo, Florenzi, Lazzari, Acerbi, Bastoni, Bonucci,
Chiellini, Emerson and Spinazzola; Midfielders-Barella, Cristante,
Fratessi, Jorginho, Locatelli, Pessina, Tonali and Verratti; Forwards-Belotti,
Bernardeschi, Gnonto, Insigne, Pellegrini, Politano, Raspadori and
Scamacca.
Wednesday, 1 June 2022 - Finalissima:-
Italy 0 Argentina 3 (87,112) - Lionel Messi and
Angel di Maria shone at Wembley in a renewal of the contest between the
champions of Europe and South America. Messi's run and cross et up the
opener for Lautaro Martinez, who then turned provder for Di Maria to chip
a second. Substitute Paulo Dybala rounded off a handsome win in injury
time. Giorgio Chiellini played the first half of whta was his 118th and
final international match. Argentina are on an unbeaten run of 32 matches.
Thursday, 2 June 2022 -
The Azzurri return to Coverciano without Giorgio Chiellini, Lorenzo
Insigne, Marco Verratti, Jorginho, Emerson and Federico Bernardeschi, who
have all left the training camp. Training resumed in the evening along
with those players who were not part of the trip to Wembley, who all had
two days rest.

- Coach Roberto Mancini made ten changes to the defeat to Argentina, with
only goalkeeper Donnarumma keeping his place. Mancini was rewarded with a
good peformance. Pellegrini scoring with an assist from Gnonto, Kimmich
equalising three minutes later. It did not stop Mancini give six players
their debuts, five from the bench.
Monday, 6 June 2022 -
The Azzurri have arrived and are now training at Dino Manuzzi Stadium in
Cesana. Samuele Ricci has left to join the under-21 for their European
Championship qualifiers. Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma continues to be
monitored after he broke a finger on Saturday.

- European Champions Italy beat Hungary to top Group A3. Italy went ahead
when Nicola Barella angled a strike into the top corner from the edge of
the penalty area after good work from Leonard Spinazzola. Lorenzo
Pellegrini doubled the hosts' lead with a low shot from Matteo Politano's
pullback from the right. Hungary pulled one back through Gianluca
Mancini's own goal.
Wednesday, 8 June 2022 -
The national side returned to the FTC in Coverciano overnight and returned
to training in the afternoon. Leonardo Bonucci and Andrea Belotti have
left the camp and returned to their clubs. It still leaves Roberto Mancini
with 32 players to choose from.
