Diary
Monday, 7 January
1901 -
"To-night a proposal is to be considered by the
council of the Football Association that return matches
between representative German and English teams be played in
September next, and the Football Association should send a
team at Easter, 1902, to play matches at Frankfurt, Berlin,
Prague, Vienna, Zurich, Geneva, and Paris. The Western
Australian and New Zealand Football Association have also
appealed to the English Football Association to assist them to
popularise football in those colonies by playing exhibition
matches there, and this proposal will also be considered at
the meeting ton-night.":- The
matter regarding sending a team to Australasia is referred to
the International Selection Committee.
Tuesday, 8 January 1901 -
"Herr Bensemann attended on behalf
of the Football Association of Germany to inquire as to the
International match next September, but it was decided to
defer the matter."
Friday, 19 April
1901 -
"The International Selection Committee considered the question
of return matches between England and Germany, and decided to
play two games in September next—one in the South on a
Saturday, and the second in the North in mid-week. For the
Southern match a Southern team will be selected, while a
professional side will do duty in the North."
Monday, 26 August 1901 -
"The
Selection Committee has chosen Tottenham Hotspur ground for
the first international match against Germany on Saturday,
Sept. 21. The English team on that occasion will be composed
wholly of amateurs, but owing to many players now being on
their holidays, the side is not definitely chosen. For the
second match, to be played on Manchester City ground on Sept.
25, the professional team against Germany has, it is been
understood, been completed. The Football Association will
entertain the German and English players after each match."
Friday, 3 September 1901 - A new line up appears, this
time with Wolverhampton Wanderers' Wooldridge in for Wright.
The Selection Committee have been informed that Jocky Wright
is a Scotsman. The Hamilton-born player, originally an
outside-left, was himself a replacement for George Hedley
shortly after the team news was released last month. Wharton
now takes up the vacant outside-left position as Wooldridge
goes on the inside.
Tuesday, 24 September 1901 - Another late change as
Nudge Needham, Sheffield United's left-half, is replaced with
Small Heath's Alec Leake. |
