    Match Report by Mike Payne

    Match Report by Norman Giller

Gary Lineker scored his twenty-fourth goal in twenty-four games to give England a fourteenth minute lead, sliding the ball past the advancing Dutch goalkeeper after controlling a thirty-yard pass from Gary Stevens. Ruud Gullit was the inspiration behind a Dutch fight back and they equalised when a cross hit Tony Adams and deflected into the England net. A sparkling Gullit run made the opening for Bosman to give Holland a half-time lead that was cancelled out when Adams made amends for his own goal by heading in a Trevor Steven free-kick. England and Holland were drawn in the same group for the upcoming European championship finals, and the coaching staff on each bench were furiously making notes for future reference.
