Began his
footballing career at Sheffield
YMCA, before joining Sheffield Wednesday FC as an amateur, before signing
professional forms in July 1942. He did not break into the side until
1945, and made 434 league appearances, scoring 140 goals,
up until 1962. This was despite him asking for a transfer on 31 December
1953, and rivals Sheffield United FC attempting to buy him, their offer
being rejected on 3 February 1954. Later, Redfern refused to join
Doncaster Rovers FC on 22 January 1960. Froggatt joined Stalybridge Celtic
FC in May 1962. |
