Signed professional terms
with Norwich City FC, from being a trainee, on 1 November 1994,
played 66 league matches, but wanted
more first team opportunities, so transferred to Charlton Athletic FC for £350,000 on 19 March 1998. He played in 45
league matches, scoring three times, helping them achieve promotion
to the Premier League via the play-offs.
Signed for Leeds United AFC for £4.37 million on 15 June 1999,
despite interest from Sheffield Wednesday FC and West Ham United FC. Loaned to Middlesbrough FC for the 2003-04 season,
playing 28 league matches. After
completing 101 Premier League matches, scoring
three times, Mills signed for
Manchester City FC on 13 July 2004 on a free transfer,
completing 51 Premier League matches, scoring
once. Signed with
Hull City FC for a two-month loan stint on 13 September 2006,
playing nine. Joined
Charlton Athletic FC on loan, on transfer deadline day, 31 August 2007,
playing nineteen.
Another loan followed, this time to Derby County FC, from January 2008
until the end of the season, although this was cut short due to injury,
after only two league matches.
Announced his retirement on 7 August 2009. |
