After a poor first post-war season (by their pre-war standards),
Arsenal tightened up their defence and suddenly became almost
unstoppable again. Freddie Pye's goal for Wolves was the first
conceded by the Gunners in seven games, but they were without both of
their regular full-backs. Arsenal remained undefeated for the first 17
games.
