An extremely close finish to the promotion race ended with only one point between the top three. Though Blackburn beat Leicester 3-0 on Good Friday, they went down by four goals at Leicester, three days later. Blackburn still had the better goal average of the three, but the game in hand for both Leicester and Everton proved just enough to leave Rovers in third place.
