Description
Red short-sleeved crew-neck shirt with non-contrasting pin stripes forming a huge shadow St. George cross across the front of the shirt. Embroidered emblem on left breast, with white border and a white star above the emblem. Lower-case 'v' in white below the emblem. The opponent's name in capitalised white lettering below the 'v', flanked on each side by a sword pointing outwards, outlined in white in the top half on the left and in the bottom half on the right, and in solid white in the bottom half on the left and in the top half on the right. The date in white, in numeric form (e.g. 05·09·15 against San Marino) was below the opponent's name. White Swoosh on right breast, white number in centre of chest, in same font as on the white shirt, and on reverse with a v-shaped mesh, with surname in capitalised white lettering above number on reverse in same font, and red emblem at base of each number on reverse. Fifteen sets of rounded white v-shaped plastic strips running alongside each side seam on the inside of the front of the shirt, with nine ventilation holes on each, getting progressively smaller from the middle outwards, and with gaps between sets of five upper strips, and four, three, two and one below them. Rectangular black label on left hip with AUTHENTIC in large silver capitalised letters, with two silver lines underneath, followed by a nine-digit serial number in silver below, all within a silver border occupying two-thirds of the left-hand side of the label. Remaining third comprises a black Swoosh, with a black line underneath, followed by 2014 in black below, all on a silver background of interlocking diamond shapes. DRI-FIT in capitalised white lettering embroidered onto right hip.

White shorts, with white drawstring and red seams. DRI-FIT in capitalised grey lettering embroidered onto right hip. Red number on left thigh, in same font as on shirt, with red Swoosh underneath. Embroidered emblem on right thigh, with white border.

Red socks with a white Swoosh on shin. Pattern of four orange blocks on back of calf. Patterned white footings, with grey borders. DRI-FIT in capitalised white lettering in a grey panel, with a grey border, on each heel.

For the first two fixtures in which this kit was worn, England's captain wore a plain white armband. The armbands worn in the other three games by Wayne Rooney, all European Championship qualification fixtures, were yellow and featured the UEFA NO TO RACISM logo.

Variations
  • For the first two games in which this shirt was worn, England did not wear any match details on the shirt.

  • The names of England's opponents for the three European Championship qualification fixtures, as they appeared beneath the emblem, were ESTONIA, SAN MARINO and SLOVENIA.

  • Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain only included his paternal family name (CHAMBERLAIN) on his shirts.

  • For the three European Championship qualification fixtures, England had the competition logo embroidered onto the right sleeve, and the qualifiers logo and the UEFA RESPECT logo on the left sleeve.

  • England wore an alternative pair of red shorts for the last two games in which this shirt was worn, with a red drawstring, white seams, a white number on the left thigh in the same font as on the shirt, with a white Swoosh underneath and an embroidered emblem on the right thigh, with a white border.

Most Appearances

5 - Wayne Rooney

4 - Jordan Henderson (1 sub), Adam Lallana (2 sub), Jack Wilshere (1 sub)

  • Jon Flanagan was the only player to make his international debut in the kit, but he only appeared for half an hour, against Ecuador and was not selected again.

  • Calum Chambers was the only other player to win his last cap in the shirt. It was his third.

Top Scorers

4 - Wayne Rooney (1 pen.)

2 - Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere

  • Rooney's penalty, against San Marino, was his 49th for England, taking him ahead of Gary Lineker and equalling Sir Bobby Charlton's all-time scoring record.

  • Two players scored their first international goal in this shirt. Jack Wilshere scored twice, against Slovenia, but they were his only two for England.

Captains

3 - Wayne Rooney

1 - Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard

  • Gerrard and Lampard each took the armband in Miami, before Rooney took on the mantle following the World Cup.

A rather fetching red pin-striped shirt was England's second release of 2014, but unfortunately, it wasn't required at the World Cup, with England exiting after three games in the white kit.

Consequently, it was only used in fairly low-key games, with the most significant being an exciting 3-2 win in Slovenia in a European Championship qualifier, the first in which a pair of red shorts was introduced, and the first occasion that England had worn all red since the thrashing by Germany at the 2010 World Cup in Bloemfontein.
