Diary

Thursday, 12 June 2008 - England will open their 2009-10 campaign with a friendly against Netherlands in Amsterdam on 12 August 2009. As part of the deal, Netherlands  will come to Wembley in August 2011.

Saturday, 8 August 2009 - Fabio Capello has named his squad to face Netherlands, with just one addition to the group from the previous World Cup qualifiers in June.  Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster returns from injury to join Robert Green and Paul Robinson in forming Capello's three options in goal.  England will be looking to continue their fine form from June that saw two wins, ten goals scored and none conceded.  Frank Lampard took his scoring tally to three goals in four for his country, while Wayne Rooney scored his ninth and tenth goals under Fabio Capello in the 6-0 win over Andorra.

Monday, 10 August 2009 - Ben Foster has returned to Manchester United this afternoon having picked up a knock during Sunday's FA Community Shield against Chelsea.  Joe Hart has been called into the squad as a replacement.

Tuesday, 11 August 2009 - Aston Villa's Ashley Young will replace Steven Gerrard in England's starting XI against the Netherlands after the midfielder pulled out with an injury.  The 29-year-old Liverpool player was forced to withdraw from the squad after picking up a groin problem in training.  "It will be a good test for Ashley," said England coach Fabio Capello ahead of Wednesday's friendly in Amsterdam.  "He has only played twice for me but the last time he did very well. It will be a good test for him."  Young will win his sixth cap, but only his second under Capello.

Theo Walcott pulled out of training also, and Emile Heskey is a slight doubt with an Achilles injury.
