Club Career

Club(s) Began with Wallsend Boys Club, before having guest appearances with the schoolboy clubs of Middlesbrough FC, Newcastle United FC and Stoke City FC, before becoming an FA School of Excellence at Lilleshall reserve in 1995, and then a West Ham United FC trainee, signing professionally on 25 August 1998. He was loaned to Swindon Town FC on 12 November 1999 and made six league appearances, scoring twice. Carrick was then loaned to Birmingham City FC on 23 February 2000 for just two league appearances. After 136 league appearances with the Hammers, scoring six times, Carrick was sold to Tottenham Hotspur FC on 24 August 2004 for an undisclosed fee, believed to be between £2.75 & £3.5 million, going on to make 64 Premier League appearances, and two goals. Joined Manchester United FC on 31 July 2006 for a fee worth up to £18.6 million, and up until his retirement on 14 May 2018, he had played in 316 Premier League matches and scored seventeen goals.

After his retirement from playing, Carrick took up a coaching role at Manchester United FC, under Jose Mourinho, and then Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. When Solskjaer left on 21 November 2021, Carrick was appointed as a caretaker. Following the appointment of Ralf Rangnick, Carrick left the club on 2 December. On 24 October 2022, he was appointed as the Head Coach at Championship club, Middlesbrough FC, and achieving the play-off's in his first season. Unfortunately, he oversaw Middlesbrough's worst ever start to a season the very next season.
