Diary
Friday, 14 March 2025, 9.00am
-
Thomas Tuchel
has named his first 26-man squad for next week's World Cup
preliminary matches. Aston Villa's on-loan forward Marcus Rashford has
earned a recall following his upturn in form since his move in January. He
last played for England a year ago. Ajax's Jordan Henderson also
returns after a year away from the squad, although he last played in
November 2023. Chelsea defender Reece James also
returns after two years out, having suffered with multiple injuries.
Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze returns after last featuring in
the first squad of this season, under Lee Carsley. Newcastle defender Dan Burn and
Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly are the only new players, however,
goalkeeper James Trafford and defender Jarell Quansah remain a
part of the set-up. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Lewis Hall, Noni Madueke and Bukayo Saka all
miss out through injury. However, from those players named in
Carsley's final squad, there are no places for Jarrad Branthwaite, Conor Gallagher, Morgan Gibbs-White, Angel Gomes,
Jack Grealish. Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Rico Lewis or Ollie Watkins.
Sunday, 16 March 2025 -
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca says Cole Palmer is likely to miss England's World Cup qualifying games with a muscular injury.
Palmer picked up the injury in training and was ruled out of today's 1-0 defeat at Arsenal.
That was the first time they had played without him since April last year, when they were beaten 5-0 by the Gunners.
Maresca thinks it is unlikely Palmer will join up with Thomas Tuchel's England squad.
"I don't think [he will be fit for England] to be honest," Maresca said after the Arsenal defeat.
"His injury is from yesterday's session. It's a muscular problem. He needs a scan and the scan is planned for Monday morning."
Morgan Gibbs-White is drafted into the squad in the evening.
Monday, 17 March 2025 - The squad
begin arriving at St. George's Park. Cole Palmer remains with his club
for further assessment. The first training session involves the 26
players, plus Adam Wharton from the under-21's.
Tuesday, 18 March 2025 - The
afternoon training session at St. George's Park is attended again by
all 26 members of the squad, but also, from the under-21 set up, Adam
Wharton, Taylor Harwwod-Bellis and Liam Delap. Following the session,
it is revealed that after further assessment, Chelsea's Cole Palmer
will not be joining up with the squad this week.
Thursday, 20 March 2025 - The
England squad relocate to Tottenham Hotspur FC Training Ground in
Enfield.
Friday, 21 March 2025
- UEFA rules state that a manager can only select 23 players in his squad for a fixture.
Tuchel selected 26 players for the games versus Albania and Latvia, meaning he had to cut three for each game.
Morgan Gibbs-White, Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah and Southampton goalkeeper
Aaron Ramsdale are the three to have missed out for Tuchel's first match in charge.
Harry Kane will captain the side, while Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice are expected to start in midfield.
Phil Foden, Morgan Rogers and Anthony Gordon all pushing to play alongside Kane in attack.
