Club Career

Club(s) Joined Ipswich Town FC as a trainee, signed professionally on 3 January 1997. He decided to leave Town after ninety league appearances, scoring nine times, in order to fulfill his international desire, Newcastle United FC signed Dyer for £6 million on 16 July 1999, Dyer turned down Leeds United AFC in order to move to the Tyneside club. Dyer's time at St James' Park was overshadowed by injuries and suspensions.  He played 190 league matches, scoring thirty times. Joined West Ham United FC on 16 August 2007 for £6 million. But once again, his four year contract was blighted by injury, appearing in only thirty league matches. On 13 March 2011, Dyer had rejoined Ipswich on a month's loan, he played in four Championship matches. Following West Ham's relegation from the Premier League in 2011, and the Hammers desperate need to offload Dyer's £83,000 per week wage bill, Dyer joined newly-promoted club, Queen's Park Rangers FC on 13 July 2011, and he made only five Premier League appearances. On 31 January 2013, Dyer signed a short-term contract with Middlesbrough FC, but after completing nine Championship appearances, in which he scored twice, he was not offered a new contract, and so Dyer announced his retirement on 31 July 2013.

England Disgrace

In the summer of 2000, when Dyer failed to make the final squad for Euro 2000, he needed a holiday to get over the 'heartache'. With Rio Ferdinand, they went on a four-day shopping bender in New York before heading to Ayia Napa, Cyprus, where they met up with other England Under-21 players, including Frank Lampard. "For about eight of the ten days, I was out on the booze." After one night-time excursion, Dyer, Lampard and Ferdinand filmed themselves in an orgy with several women they had invited back to their five-star hotel. "I haven't a clue about the exact number of women I had - four or five maybe," said Dyer, whose girlfriend was pregnant with their first child at the time. Days after the story broke, Dyer needed laser surgery to save an eye after being involved in a fight in an Ipswich nightclub.
At the beginning of 2004-05 season, Dyer's insolence and insistence on not playing where he was asked too by the manager Bobby Robson, led to disharmony in the dressing room, and ultimately to the sacking of Robson from his beloved Newcastle club.
In April 2005, Lee Bowyer was charged with Public Order Act after an on-the-pitch brawl with Dyer. Bowyer was fined £600 plus court costs by the Northumbria County Court, and fined £30,000 by the Football Association. Dyer was banned for three matches.
