Began his career with Bolton YMCA before signing with
Southport FC as an amateur in October 1948, he signed professional terms
in February 1949. After sixty league
appearances, and six goals, Meadows joined Manchester City FC on
transfer deadline day, 15 March 1951, for £5,000. He played in the FA Cup Final in 1955, but after
seventeen minutes, a serious leg injury ended his match. He never played
again and he eventually retired though injury, aged 26 years in October
1957, after thirty goals in 130 league appearances. |

Management Career |
Club(s) |
After retiring
from playing, Meadows remained with Manchester City FC and their training
staff, making Head Coach from August 1960 until April 1965. He joined
Stockport County FC as trainer in December 1965, becoming the club manager
from October 1966 until March 1969. Had a stint as Bury FC assistant
manager from July to September 1969. He took a similar position with
Blackpool FC a month later, until he became their club manager in a
caretaker capacity from October 1970, becoming the assistanat manager two
months later. He became the team manager of Bolton Wanderers FC in January
to April 1971, for 81 days, under the stewardship of Nat Lofthouse, who
was the General Manager. Meadows then became the manager of Southport FC
from May 1971 until his sacking on 30 December 1973. Returned to Stockport
County FC as their manager from May 1974 until August 1975. He
subsequently had spells with Blackpool FC (twice), coaching GIF Sundsvall
in Sweden and was assistant manager with Kuwait SC. |
