Management Career |

After retiring from playing at the
tender age off 22, Manchester United FC kept McGuinness on their books,
offering him coaching roles at Old Trafford. Firstly, as the Youth Team
coach, was also part-time trainer of the England Youth Team between from
1963 until his appointment as Chief Coach in June 1969. He became United's
team manager from August 1970, until dropping back down into coaching and managing the Reserve team from December 1970 until March 1971. After being
unceremoniously dumped by the Old Trafford board, McGuinness joined Aris
Salonika in the Greece Football League in July 1971 until 1973, whereupon
he joined Panaraiki. He returned to England in late 1974 to scout for
Everton FC, before becoming York City FC's manager from February 1975
until his sacking after several relegations in October 1977. Next stop,
Hull City AFC as First Team Coach from July 1978 until December 1979. Bury
FC employed him in various posts from August 1980, including Reserve Team
Coach, Assistant Manager and Physiotherapist. |
