team changes: |
Two sets of cousins were due to be involved, the Froggatt's, Jack and
Redfern, and the Milburn's, Jackie and Stan, but Redfern, along with
his teammate and original named captain Hugh Swift, withdrew from the
side after being hurt in their side's league clash on 11 February.
They were replaced on 16 February by Eckersley and
Roy Bentley (Chelsea FC (FL
10th)), at the same time,
Jackie Milburn (Newcastle United FC
(FL 11th)) withdrew, after breaking a
toe on his right foot in training. The untried Lofthouse came in as
his replacement.
Laurie Hughes (Liverpool FC) then withdrew from the line-up on 18
February because of a facial injury, playing for his club against West
Bromwich Albion FC. His place going to Leuty. Ronnie Dicks
(Middlesbrough FC (FL 13th)),
Jack Froggatt (Portsmouth FC
(FL 4th)) and Bentley also all withdrew. Dicks
had failed to recover in time from injury, Froggatt was injured on
Saturday and Bentley had 'a chill'. There places going to reserve Stan
Milburn, Shackleton and Mullen. Hudgett replaced Milburn as one of the
reserves. |
The team were set-up in Whitley Bay, Northumberland. |

Match Report
as appears in the F.A. Yearbook 1950-51, page 24 |
For the match against Holland at Newcastle on February 22nd, England 'B'
fielded a mixed team which included several new internationals. Their
performance was below expectation, though Shackleton and Mannion showed
individual brilliance. The Dutch put up a determined fight, but were
outclassed in football skill; the margin of England's victory (3—0) might
well have been much greater, but for the forward-line's weakness in
scoring-power.
