Birth 6 January 1923 in Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland [registered in Newcastle upon Tyne, March 1923]. To Thomas and Margaret Jane (née Aitken)
  Jimmy Mullen appeared in the UK Phone Books from 1959 onwards, he was living at 23 York Avenue, telephone number 27612. His sports shop (Jimmy Mullen Sports Ltd) was at 61 Stafford Road, telephone number 21511. By 1968, his sports shop had moved to 33 Broad Street. By 1980, he had moved home, to 33 Birchfield Avenue in Tettenhall, telephone number Wolverhampton 753177. He remained at both until at least 1984
Marriage three possibilities, to Joan F. Clayton [registered in Wolverhampton, June 1946], or to Sarah S. Neilson [registered in Wolverhampton, September 1947], or to Margaret Higgins [registered in Wolverhampton, June 1951]. The only three James Mullen's to marry in Wolverhampton.
Death 23 October 1987 in Walsall, aged 64 years 290 days [registered in Walsall, Staffordshire, October 1987].

Club Career

Club(s) Played school football in Newcastle upon Tyne, playing for Newcastle boys and Northumberland boys. He was spotted and signed for Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, signing amateur forms and joining the groundstaff in July 1937, becoming a professional in January 1940. Apart from guesting for Leicester City FC, he remained with Wolves until his retirement in May 1960, completing 448 league appearances, scoring 99.
Club honours Football League runners-up 1938-39, 1949-50, 1954-55, Champions 1953-54, 1957-58, 1958-59; Football League (North) War Cup winners 1941-42; FA Cup winners 1948-49; FA Charity Shield shared 1949, winners 1954, 1959, runners-up 1958;
Individual honours Football League (one appearance);
Distinctions The youngest ever Wolverhampton Wanderers FC player, at 16 years and 43 days, he played against Leeds United AFC on 18 February 1939.
