Match Report as appears in the Daily News, 17 May 1954

YUGO-SLAVIA'S "B" side completed their country's Soccer joy-day, by beating England "B" 2—1 here this evening. And here, also, victory went to the better side. Yugo-Slavia were faster on the ball and did most of the attacking.
England adopted the wrong tactics. They relied mainly on long, through passes and played straight into the hands of a compact, sure-kicking Yugo-Slav defence.
A small number of British soldiers from Trieste were swallowed up in the 20,000 crowd. Their happiest moment came nine minutes after the interval, when Fulham's leader, Bedford Jezzard, shot England into the lead. Inside-right Albert Quixall (Sheffield Wednesday) laid on the goal with a perfect pass. Jezzard was on the spot and ran on to score with a hard, close-range shot. Within six minutes it was 1—1. Centre-forward Toplak started the move with a good pass to outside-right Herceg, who crashed the ball past Ted Burgin. Yugo-Slavia continued to have most of the game and clinched victory in the 75th minute. Again it was a Toplak-Herceg move, finishing with a terrific shot from the outside-right.
