Attended Houndsfield Road School and The Laymer Grammar School, Edmonton.
Marriage Apparently three times, but no registrations can be found. He was survived by Avril, his third wife, presumably married in South Africa.
Death 18 October 2005 in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, Midlothian, Scotland, aged 71 years 1 day [no registration in England] as a result of a car accident the day before on the Dalry Road, Edinburgh.

Club Career

Club(s) Before turning professional, at the age of 17, in May 1952, he played for Feltham FC in the Middlesex League, Wimbledon FC in the Isthmian League and Woodford Town FC, in the Delphian League because Fulham FC had no youth team at the time.  He remained at Fulham FC for eighteen years, and even turned down an £100,000 approach from AC Milan, confirming on 23 April 1961 he was to remain in London, and appearing for 594 league games, he scored 147 times. He left on a free to South Africa and played for Durban City FC, coached by John Byrne in 1970.

Individual honours Football League (thirteen appearances).
Ballon d'Or
third 1969, seventh 1958, =seventeenth 1957;
Distinctions First player to earn a weekly £100 wage in 1961, following the abolition of the maximum wage.

Beyond England

After hanging up his boots at the age of 41, Haynes remained in South Africa, he invested successfully in a bookmaking business, and after a few years of coaching decided to spend his time instead working on his golf handicap.
