Diary

Friday, 10 March 1961 - Three new names come into the England reckoning for the last of the winter get-togethers—Aston Villa centre-forward Gerry Hitchens, slim George Eastham, who has been showing his £47,000 form at Arsenal, and Sheffield Wednesday's Tony Kay. They are among the fifteen players called up for special training next week. They will have a private practise match against West Ham United at their Boleyn Ground on Monday, and then will play the Under-23 side, as they prepare for their match against West Germany, on Tuesday at the Bank of England Sports Ground in Roehampton. Tottenham's Bobby Smith is the only regular from this season who misses out, he will be on Cup duty.

Monday, 13 March 1961 - England took a step towards shaping their team to meet Scotland next month when they played an hour long practice match against West Ham United at their Boleyn Ground. Two of the regular England team were missing, Ron Flowers was missing because he has a cold. Bryan Douglas received a kick on a thigh on Saturday and so was rested, his place going to Peter Brabrook.
