Hooper
started playing football at Hylton Colliery FC. As a junior, he joined
West Ham United FC, where his father was a trainer, and went on
to play 119 league matches, scoring 39 goals. Also appeared for a
London XI in 1955. Hooper moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers FC for £25,000
in 1956, and scored 19 goals in 39 league matches. He
then joined Birmingham City FC for £20,000 in 1957, playing 105
league matches and scoring 34 goals, before returning to his
native north-east with Sunderland AFC for a fee of £18,000 in 1960,
playing 65 league matches, scoring 16 goals. He went on
to play non-league football from 1963 with Kettering Town FC, Dunstable
Town FC and Heanor Town FC before retiring in 1968. |
