Notes
Only eleven men have led England
in European Championship final tournament play. Only one of these--Gary
Cahill--was a standby captain serving in the absence of
the preferred captain.
Only one has done so at two final
tournaments--Harry Kane--in 2020 and 2024.
Injuries, the fortuities of time and qualification
failures have prevented some of England's most illustrious captains from
wearing the armband at the World Cup finals or at least limited their
appearances as captain on the great stage.
