A rare home defeat for Wednesday, but five goals at Bury, a week later, took them back to the top flight. Bristol Rovers' best ever season saw them on the brink of promotion, but defeat at Leeds, also a week later, enabled the Yorkshiremen to snatch the runners-up spot by winning their last six games, and Rovers finished sixth.
