    Match Report by Mike Payne

    Match Report by Norman Giller

This game is a skeleton in goalkeeper Ray Clemence's cupboard. He allowed a half-hit shot from Kenny Daglish to roll through his legs for Scotland's winning goal in the forty-ninth minute. Mike Channon had given England an eleventh minute lead following enterprising play by Roy McFarland, and Bruce Rioch equalised six minutes later when he headed an Eddie Gray corner-kick powerfully wide of Clemence. A spectacular forty yard run by Dalglish ended with Clemence snatching the ball from him in the penalty area, a complete contrast to what was to happen in the second-half. 'It was the worst moment of my career,' Clemence said many years later. 'I thought I had the ball covered, but it bobbled and the next thing I knew it was through my legs and into the net. I wanted the Hampden pitch to open up and hide me.'
