Friday, 3 May 2024 - The UEFA Executive Committee has decided to increase the maximum squad size of teams participating in Euro 2024 from the original quota of 23 to a 26 man squad.

Tuesday, 21 May 2024 - Gareth Southgate has named a 33-man training squad. Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite and Burnley's James Trafford retain their places, whereas Liverpool's Curtis Jones, Jarell Quansah and Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton, all receive their first call-ups, and his teammates, Eberechi Eze, Marc Guéhi and Dean Henderson, all return to the set-up. Ajax midfielder Jordan Henderson misses out, as does Manchester United's Marcus Rashford.

Wednesday, 29 May 2024 - Various members of the squad who are not included in their club's post-season arrangements, or the FA Cup Final, began arriving at St. George's Park and have their first training session together.

Sunday, 2 June 2024 - 26 of the 29 players who have arrived at St. George's Park are involved in today's training. Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Anthony Gordon continue to work on individual programmes indoors.
At the Press Conference, Southgate confirms that Kieran Tripper will captain the side, and his side will be without six players for the game against Bosnia & Herzegovina, including defenders Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and John Stones. Manchester United's Maguire and Shaw are nursing injuries and Southgate said it is also "unlikely" they will be fit in time for Friday's friendly against Iceland. Stones is unavailable for the game against Bosnia having joined up with the squad late, while Anthony Gordon is recovering from an injury and Bukayo Saka is being rested. Jude Bellingham is due to join up on 8 June after helping Real Madrid to win the Champions League on Saturday. "All are progressing well - we're pleased with the progress they've made," said Southgate. "John reported a bit later so hasn't worked with us for the number of days, so it's better for him to follow an individual programme. "Bukayo's fine and progressing well, but he'll rest tomorrow and then he should be available for Friday."

Monday, 3 June 2024 - England 3 Bosnia & Herzegovina 0 - Cole Palmer marked his first England start by setting Gareth Southgate's side on their way to victory against Bosnia-Herzegovina at St James' Park. England's much-changed side struggled to find any rhythm for long periods in a scrappy affair but finally broke the deadlock on the hour when Palmer drove in a penalty after Ezri Konsa was pulled back at a corner. Trent Alexander-Arnold made sure of the friendly win with a fine volley at the far post five minutes from time, with Harry Kane later pouncing from close range to give the scoreline a convincing appearance. Eberechi Eze, was a bright spark until he was substituted. In a game of few opportunities before England's late rally, Ollie Watkins was denied by an early save from keeper Nikola Vasilj while Alexander-Arnold showed flashes of his range of passing in a midfield role. Southgate took the opportunity to make more changes after the break, which saw Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite and Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton getting their first senior appearances.

Tuesday, 4 June 2024 - Kobbie Mainoo and Phil Foden arrive at Spurs Lodge, at Tottenham Hotspur's training facility in Enfield.

Thursday, 6 June 2024 - James Maddison and Curtis Jones have been dropped from the European Championship squad.
Harry Maguire has also been left out and left the Spurs Training Camp.
Jack Grealish, Jarell Quansah, Jarrad Branthwaite and James Trafford are the remaining four to be cut. Luke Shaw continues his rehabilitation programme and is hoped to be available for the match against Denmark.

Friday, 7 June 2024 - England 0 Iceland 1 - England concluded preparations for Euro 2024 with a dismal performance in defeat to Iceland at the National Stadium. Gareth Southgate made eight changes to the previous match and was disappointed with the pedestrian performance. Iceland, once more conquerors of England, cut through poor defending and keeper Aaron Ramsdale may have done better with Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson's low shot after twelve minutes. Harry Kane missed a great chance to equalise and Cole Palmer also had opportunities but Southgate's side looked rusty and looked vulnerable at the back, with Iceland also having their chances to extend their lead. John Stones was substituted at half-time as a precaution after taking a knock to his ankle after 47 seconds.

Sunday, 9 June 2024 - The 26-man squad arrive at St. George's Park to begin preparations for the 2024 European Championship Finals in Germany, for one last training session on home soil.
Manchester United's veteran goalkeeper, Tom Heaton, has been drafted into the party as a training goalkeeper, supporting Pickford, Ramsdale and Henderson, and ultimately Martyn Margetson, the goalkeeping coach.

Monday, 10 June 2024 - After a visit from His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, who, as he did before their 2022 World Cup send-off, presented the players with their squad numbers, as well as a special presentation to Southgate for reaching 150 England matches in March. The squad left St. George's Park amid cheering schoolchildren on board Ellisons Travel coach (Van Hool Altano LOT 7E (originally YJ19 BTE)) bound for Birmingham Airport. They leave the airport at 3.54pm, and after flying for 1 hour 24 minutes on board a Boeing 737-76N 2Excel Aviation (BRO875A G-NEWG), landing at Erfurt Weimer Airport at 6.18pm. Arriving at basecamp, Weimarer Land, a Spa and golf resort in Blankenhain, near Leipzig, shortly afterwards.

Tuesday, 11 June 2024 - Before England's first training session at the Ernst-Abbe-Sportfeld in Erfurt, home of Carl Zeiss Jena, Southgate welcomed local government officials Carsten Müller (Head of Jenakultur), Benjamin Koppe (Head of sports department) and Christian Gerlitz, (vice mayor) to say thank-you for the warm welcome afforded to the England group following their arrival. After UEFA's official photoshoot, all 26 members of the squad were involved, training in front of local children who are involved in the local grassroots and youth teams in Erfurt.

Wednesday, 12 June 2024 - 25 of the 26 players are out training in Erfurst. John Stones is the only player missing, as he is suffering with a sickness bug.

Thursday & Friday, 13 & 14 June 2024 - John Stones returns to the squad after a day out. Full 26-man squad are out training at the Ernst-Abbe-Sportfeld.

Sunday, 16 June 2024 - Serbia 0 England 1 - Jude Bellingham inspired England to the start they wanted at Euro 2024 with the winning goal and a stunning individual performance in the victory over Serbia in Gelsenkirchen. Bellingham's dream season – which brought him a Champions League triumph at the end of his first campaign with Real Madrid – continued as he demonstrated exactly why he is regarded as England's new superstar. The 20-year-old powered on to the end of Bukayo Saka's deflected cross with a magnificent header after 13 minutes as Gareth Southgate's side were rewarded for an impressive opening. England, who started with Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield, fell back into old habits after the break as they sat back, their reduced intensity allowing Serbia to apply pressure. Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made an important late save from Dusan Vlahovic. Harry Kane came close to adding a second for England when he saw a header from substitute Jarrod Bowen's cross superbly touched on to the bar by Serbia keeper Predrag Rajkovic. England will need to improve, but this was at least a result that will send them into their second Group C game against Denmark on Thursday in good heart.

Monday, 17 June 2024 - After the squad return back to Blankenhain in the early hours, their are twelve players are out on the training pitch with the remaining players undergoing a personal recovery session indoors.  The eleven starters, plus Gallagher, Bowen and Luke Shaw.

Wednesday, 19 June 2024 - 25 players are out on the pitch for this morning's training session, as Luke Shaw continues with his individual programme elsewhere and is unavailable for the match with Denmark tomorrow.

Thursday, 20 June 2024 - Denmark 1 England 1 - England wasted the chance to secure their place in the Euro 2024 knockout stages as Group C winners as they were fortunate to take a draw from a dismal display against Denmark in Frankfurt. Gareth Southgate’s side would have topped Group C with a win after the earlier draw between Slovenia and Serbia - but were ultimately grateful for a point from a disorganised, shambolic mess of performance. Harry Kane scored in his fourth successive major tournament to give England an 18th-minute lead but, as so often under manager Southgate, this was the signal for them to shrink into their shell to allow Danish domination. Denmark got the equaliser they deserved when Morten Hjulmand struck a thunderous 25-yard equaliser after 34 minutes. Phil Foden struck the post after the break and, while England are still at the head of their group, they must deliver vast improvements against Slovenia.

Friday, 21 June 2024 - A total of ten England players are out training today, including all of the substitutes who did not feature last night. Luke Shaw is continuing with his individual programme inside, along with the eleven starters and four substitutes. The players then spend time with their families.

Saturday, 22 June 2024 - 25 of the 26 players are out on the pitch for this morning's training session, as Luke Shaw continues with his individual programme indoors. With the intensity in training reaching a new high.

Monday, 24 June 2024 - All 26 players are out training in Blankenhain, before they leave for Cologne in the afternoon. Despite Luke Shaw's involvement in traing, it is still highly unlikely their will be ani involvement tomorrow night.

Tuesday, 25 June 2024 - England 0 Slovenia 0 - England moved into Euro 2024's last 16 at the top of Group C - but it was only achieved after another drab display with a draw against Slovenia in Cologne. Gareth Southgate's side offered up slightly more than in the abysmal performance against Denmark but once again it was nowhere good enough to justify England's status as pre-tournament favourites. They were laboured and only showed quality in flashes, namely in the first half when a slick passing move ended with Bukayo Saka's goal being ruled out for offside. For the second game in a row, England felt real hostility from supporters who backed them magnificently during the game but made their feelings clear after the final whistle. After boos at the break, supporters let Southgate know what they thought when he went to applaud them at the end, with a couple of empty drinks cups aimed his way from the stands. Conor Gallagher failed to justify his inclusion and was replaced at half-time, with the introduction of Manchester United teenager Kobbie Mainoo providing more urgency after the break.
Their are reports of booing and jeering at the end as Gareth Southgate approached the England fans, showering the players' families in plastic cups and its contents.

Wednesday, 26 June 2024 - Phil Foden has left the camp in Blankenhain and returned to the UK for the birth of his third child. In a statement the FA said the Manchester City player needed to go home because of a "pressing family matter". It is hoped Foden will be back with the squad by Sunday, the day of England's last-16 match.
The rest of the squad are having relaxation programmes. It includes the riding of E-bikes around the hotel complex, in which Anthony Gordon falls off one, injuring himself in the process.
9:56pm - England are to play Slovakia in the Round of Sixteen match on Sunday night following Georgia's shock win over Portugal.

Thursday, 27 June 2024 - 23 of the 25 players in Blankenhain are training with Kieran Trippier (calf injury) and Declan Rice are undergoing personal individual programmes.
Towards the end of the day, it is reported that Phil Foden has returned to camp following the birth of his third child.

Saturday, 29 June 2024 - All 26 players of the squad are training in Blankenhain, after Trippier missed out on training yesterday, recovering and rehabilitating from his calf injury.

Sunday, 30 June 2024 - England 2 Slovakia 1 - Jude Bellingham produced a moment of genius to keep England in the tournament as they survived another desperate display and a huge scare to beat Slovakia in dramatic fashion to reach the last eight. England were seconds away from an embarrassing exit in Gelsenkirchen as Slovakia defended a lead they had held since the 25th minute when Ivan Schranz raced into the box to poke a low finish past Jordan Pickford. It was then that Bellingham demonstrated the brilliance that has made him England’s new superstar by going airborne in the penalty area to send Marc Guehi’s headed flick past Martin Dubravka with a stunning overhead kick. Bellingham rescued England from a performance that plumbed such depths that his goal was their first effort on target – but then set the platform for a victory as Slovakia, who had defended so stubbornly, were left stunned. And captain Harry Kane emphasised England’s sudden superiority a minute into the extra 30 minutes when he headed home from close range to complete a remarkable turnaround and set up a quarter-final meeting with Switzerland.

Monday 3.13pm, 1 July 2024 - UEFA is investigating a gesture made by Jude Bellingham following his late equaliser against Slovakia. European football's governing body says Bellingham allegedly broke the rules regarding "the basic rules of decent conduct". Bellingham was seen making a crotch-grabbing gesture after scoring an overhead kick in stoppage time. He has denied it, saying it was aimed at England's opponents, saying on social media that it was an inside-joke directed towards some close friends.

Wednesday, 3 July 2024 - Following a couple of days for recovery, all 26 players are out training. John Stones trained with his right knee strapped up.

Friday, 5 July 2024 - After all 26 players are out training in the morning, Jude Bellingham has been cleared to play against Switzerland on Saturday. Bellingham has however received a fine of €30,000 after being investigated following a crotch-grabbing gesture made after scoring in last Sunday's win over Slovakia, Bellingham has been cleared to play, but has received a suspended one-match ban on a one-year probation period, meaning he can still feature on Saturday.

Saturday, 6 July 2024 - England 1 Switzerland 1 - England stepped back from the brink of a Euro 2024 exit again as they secured a semi-final place with victory over Switzerland on penalties in Düsseldorf. Gareth Southgate’s side were in trouble once more when Breel Embolo stole in at the far post to put Switzerland ahead with only 15 minutes left. Bukayo Saka then produced a moment of individual brilliance of the sort England have relied on heavily throughout the tournament to equalise with a fierce low shot five minutes later. Extra time failed to find a winner, England going through with a set of flawless penalties after goalkeeper Jordan Pickford saved Manuel Akanji’s first spot-kick. Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham, Saka and Ivan Toney were all successful before substitute Trent Alexander-Arnold hammered home the decisive penalty in front of England’s delirious supporters. They can now look forward to a semi-final against either the Netherlands or Turkey in Dortmund on Wednesday.

Wednesday, 10 July 2024 - Netherlands 1 England 2 - England will face Spain in the Euro 2024 final in Berlin on Sunday after a last-minute strike from substitute Ollie Watkins sealed victory over the Netherlands. Gareth Southgate's side looked to be going into extra time for the third successive game after Harry Kane's contentious first-half penalty equalised a thunderous early strike from Xavi Simons until Watkins struck. England dominated the first half, with Phil Foden outstanding, hitting the post with one long-range effort and drawing a fine save from Dutch keeper Bart Verbruggen. The Netherlands, who saw Denzel Dumfries' header hit the bar before the break, took control after the break and it required important interventions from keeper Jordan Pickford to keep England level. England were facing another extra 30 minutes until a superb late strike on the turn from Watkins, on for Kane, sent England into their second successive European Championship final on a dramatic night in Dortmund.

Sunday, 14 July 2024 - European Championship 2024 Final - Spain 2 England 1 - England’s quest to end 58 years of pain and disappointment ended in failure as they were beaten by Spain in the Euro 2024 final at Berlin's Olympiastadion. Gareth Southgate's side were sunk by Mikel Oyarzabal's late winner to leave England heartbroken again in a second successive European Championship final and unable to end the long wait for success for the men's team. Spain's young star wingers combined to give them the lead two minutes after the break as Lamine Yamal's pass opened up space for Nico Williams to beat England keeper Jordan Pickford with a powerful low finish. England captain Harry Kane was out of sorts once more and was substituted on the hour and it was Cole Palmer - on for Kobbie Mainoo - who raised hopes of another dramatic comeback with a composed left-foot strike after 73 minutes. It was Spain, however, who snatched the win four minutes from time as Oyarzabal slid home Marc Cucurella's cross to leave England the nearly men once more.

Monday, 15 July 2024 - The England players and staff return home.  Leaving Berlin Airport at 12.24pm, on board a 2Excel Aviation Boeing 737-76N BRO875B (G-NEWG). Arriving at Stanstead Airport 91 minutes later at 1.55pm.

Tuesday 11am, 16 July 2024 - England manager Gareth Southgate has resigned two days after defeat by Spain in the 2024 European Championship final. Southgate, 53, managed his country for 102 games in eight years in charge. His contract was set to expire later this year. "As a proud Englishman, it has been the honour of my life to play for England and to manage England. It has meant everything to me, and I have given it my all. But it's time for change, and for a new chapter."
Football Association chief executive Mark Bullingham said the process to appoint Southgate's successor has started and "we aim to have our new manager confirmed as soon as possible". He added the FA "have an interim solution in place if it is needed" and will not comment further on the process until a new boss is appointed. Under-21 boss Lee Carsley could be a candidate for an interim solution.
