Playing Career |
Club(s): |
Toney began his youth career with his local League side, Northampton
Town FC, making his debut in an FA Cup first round as a sixteen
year-old, becoming the club's youngest first-team player. He helped Town
avoid demotion into non-league in his first full season and was getting
noticed, although a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers FC in November 2014
fell through. On 6 August 2015, Toney did leave when Newcastle United FC
signed him, but spent much of his time being loaned away. Barnsley FC on
9 November 2015 for 28 days, but returned to Oakwell on 24 March 2016
for the remainder of the season. Joined Shrewsbury Town on loan on 8
August 2016, then to Scunthorpe United FC on 12 January 2017. Toney was
then shipped out to Wigan Athletic AFC on 2 August 2017, only to return
to the north-east to be loaned back to Scunthorpe United FC a day later,
11 January 2018. Wanting to settle, Toney left Newcastle to join
Peterborough United FC on 9 August 2018 for £650,000. Then, on 31 August
2020, Toney turned down Tottenham Hotspur FC to join Brentford FC for
£5m. Toney was banned from football on 17 May 2023 after he was found to
have been betting on football matches. Missed the start of the 2024-25
season, as he was subject to a £35 million bid from Saudi side Ah Ahli,
whom he eventually joined on 31 August, and made his Saudi ProLeague
debut on 13 September, against Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr, drawing
1-1. Has made five+one SPL and scored three, up
until 8 November 2024. |

Rejected a call-up by Jamaica in March 2021 in
order to play for his home country, and became the third player to
represent England from Brentford FC, the first since 1939 and now the
most-appearanced England player at the club. He is the
first ever Northampton-born player to ever represent England, however, he
is one of only two Northamptonshirian's to play for England post-war
(Phil Neal being the other). The eighth
Northamptonshirian to represent England. |
