Diary

Friday, 29 August 2025 - Thomas Tuchel has named a 26-man squad to face Andorra and Serbia in World Cup qualification matches from next weekend. Trent Alexander-Arnold, recently signed by Real Madrid, has been left out. His clunbmate, Jude Bellingham, is missing because of his shoulder injury. Others missing because of injury include Arsenal's Bukayo Saka and Chelsea pair Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill. Chelsea's Trevor Chalobah, Burnley's new-signing, the experienced Kyle Walker, Liverpool's Curtis Jones, Atlético's Conor Gallagher and Ahli's Ivan Toney. Everton's in-form winger Jack Grealish still misses out, as does his old city teammate, Phil Foden.
Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson and Tottenham's Djed Spence have both earned first call-ups. There are recalls for Palace's Marc Guéhi, Manchester City's John Stones, who gets a first call-up under Tuchel, West Ham's Jarrod Bowen and on-loan Barcelona forward, Marcus Rashford. Newcastle's Tino Livramento returns after featuring in the under-21 successful Euro campaign. Palace's Adam Wharton also returns, after he missed out on the Euro Under-21's because of injury.

Monday, 1 September 2025 - On Transfer Deadline Day, Liverpool nearly get their man in the signing of Marc Guéhi, who has been a subject of many bids for the last month. A £35 million fee was finalised as he successfully passed his medical. Despite Liverpool submitting their relevant paperwork, Palace would not sanction the deal as they had not found an adequate replacement.

Tuesday, 2 September 2025 - Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been added to the England squad, seven years after his tenth and final appearance, when he came on as a substitute in a win against the United States in November 2018. Thomas Tuchel managed the 29-year-old during his stint in charge of Chelsea. Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jarell Quansah has also been called up, after an injury to Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton. Wharton picked up the groin injury in his side's 3-0 win at Aston Villa on Sunday. Quansah was part of the England side that won the European Under-21 Championship in June, and joined the German club from Liverpool in a £35m deal last month. He was also part of Tuchel's first England squad in March that faced Albania and Latvia in the World Cup qualifiers, but is yet to make his first appearance.

Wednesday, 3 Setember 2025 - In the abscence of the under-21 squad, Thomas Tuchel has invited two members of the under-20 squad to train alongside 21 of the senior members. Plymouth Argyle's Law McCabe, on loan from Middlesbrough, and Nottingham Forest's Zach Abbott, were the two members chosen.

Thursday, 4 September 2025 - Following another 21-man training session at St. George's Park, Marc Guéhi hands Andrew Johnson his Legacy Cap (1135), as the FA extend their new tradition to include former players.

Friday, 5 September 2025 - Defender John Stones has withdrawn from the England squad. Tuchel says he does not want to take any risks with the 31-year-old, who arrived at the training camp with a "muscular issue" that has not improved. Stones has started all three of Manchester City's Premier League games this season. "He came with minor issues and didn't progress as we thought and hoped he would, so he left camp this morning. Everyone else is available. We had 21 players yesterday in training and 21 players today in training and hopefully make sure everyone is available for tomorrow." Marc Guéhi, Dan Burn, Ezri Konsa and Jarell Quansah are Tuchel's other centre-back options.

Saturday, 6 September 2025 - England 2 Andorra 0 - England overcame stubborn resistance from Andorra to record a fourth successive victory under Thomas Tuchel in World Cup qualifiers. In what was effectively an encounter of defence against attack, England once again laboured for long periods before finally making their quality count against the minnows ranked 174th in the world. Tuchel gave a debut to Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, who was one of the more impressive performers in a largely drab encounter at Villa Park. England broke the deadlock after 25 minutes when Andorra defender Christian Garcia headed Noni Madueke's cross past keeper Iker Alvarez into his own net. Andorra's defensive ranks held firm, helped by keeper Alvarez when he saved superbly from Anderson, until Declan Rice headed in Reece James' fine cross at the far post after 67 minutes.

Monday, 8 September 2025 - The final training session at St. George's Park involves all 24 members of the squad this morning, before the squad then travelled to Belgrade's Nikola Tesla Airport, arriving at 7.45pm, having left Birmingham Airport at 4.17pm on board a 2Excel Aviation B733 (G-SWRD) Boeing 737-3L9 (BRO022A).
