Club Career
Club(s) First professional club was his local side, Notts County FC, he scored once in 25 fourth division league appearances across two seasons, before Tommy Docherty's Rotherham County FC signed him in 1968 for a thousand pounds plus Keith Pring. He made 121 league appearances, mainly in the third division, and he scored nineteen goals. Sunderland AFC. Watson joined Manchester City FC for £175,000 in the 1975 summer. Signed for SV Werder Bremen in June 1979, but played in just two league games, being sent-off in his second, on 18 August, which preceeded an eight-week ban handed down by the DFB. After stating his unhappiness in Germany, Watson signed for Southampton FC on 16 October 1979 for a £200,000 transfer fee. Joined Stoke City FC in January 1982. Spent the 1983 summer in the NASL with Vancouver Whitecaps, before returning to play with Derby County FC for the 1983-84 season.
