Match Report
Evening Express, Monday,
2 February 1959 |
WEATHER
is again playing havoc with the midweek football programme. The Scotland
v. England Under-23 international due at Ibrox on Wednesday has been
postponed. An SFA official stated that the
ground at Ibrox was like concrete. "Even with a thaw," he said,
"conditions would be difficult and there could be no useful purpose in
playing the match." Although talks are continuing, it may be that the game
will be cancelled completely. The backlog of league fixtures make it
difficult for the game to be fitted in before the England v. Scotland full
international on April 11.
UNDER-23 DATE "The Scotland
v. England Under-23 international, postponed on February 4 because the
ground at
Ibrox Park was unfit, has been rearranged for Monday, April 20, nine days
after the countries meet in their full international at Wembley. No new
venue or kick-off time time yet been decided."
- Thursday, 19 February 1959, Liverpool Echo
UNDER-23 OFF
"The Scotland v. England
Under-23 international has been cancelled beacuse of the heavy Football
League programme in the week before that date."
- Friday, 27February 1959, News Chronicle
