Diary

Wednesday, 4 November 2020 - UEFA confirm that Reece James is suspended for England's final two Nations League matches, following his dismissal for dissent after the final whistle against Denmark last month. Harry Maguire, who was dismissed for two yellow cards, will miss the match against Belgium.

Thursday, 5 November 2020 - Gareth Southgate has named a 29-man squad for the upcoming matches against Republic of Ireland, Belgium and Iceland from next Thursday. There are no new faces. There is a return to the squad of Phil Foden.

Tuesday, 10 November 2020 - Trent Alexander-Arnold and James Ward-Prowse have both withdrawn from the squad and returned to their clubs. Their is a first call-up for seventeen year old Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham. Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford will mass the game against Republic of Ireland as he will not report for duty until Thursday morning, following an injury he suffered at the weekend.

Wednesday, 11 November 2020 - Liverpool central defender Joe Gomez has been injured whilst training with the England squad. The news that Gomez could now be facing a spell on the sidelines leaves his club manager Jurgen Klopp with a serious problem with his defence becoming more dilapidated as the their fixtures continue to come. It is also a personal blow to Gomez, who has suffered serious injuries in the past.

Thursday, 12 November 2020 - England strolled to victory against the Republic of Ireland at Wembley. Gareth Southgate gave his second string team a chance as he kept the main players back for the match on Sunday - but they still outclassed an Irish side. Jude Bellingham became England's third youngest player, and Manchester United goalkeeper also won his first senior cap as a replacement for Nick Pope. Harry Maguire headed in Harry Winks' cross after 18 minutes. Jadon Sancho doubled England's advantage before Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored emphatically from the penalty spot to seal the victory.
Conor Coady and Marcus Rashford have been force to withdraw from the squad for self-isolating purposes following contact with the CoVid-19 virus.

Friday, 13 November 2020 - The starting XI from last night's victory have a day of recovery, whilst the remainder of the squad have training. Suspended Reece James has returned to his club.

Saturday, 14 November 2020 - The 24-man squad are out for training, all remaining players are involved in the morning session. They fly to Belgium in the afternoon.

Sunday, 15 November 2020 - Raheem Sterling has picked up an injury before the match tonight and is forced to miss out.
Gareth Southgate hands UEFA an updated squad list that necessitates the use of squad numbers. It is the first time England have been required to use squad numbers in qualification history. They have previously used squad numbers before in Final Tournament and Minor Tournament play. However, they were first used for the tour of Scandinavia in 1937.
