All information is complete
to and including England's last match, the thirteenth of the 2020-21 season, against
Romania on 6 June 2021
Diary
Tuesday, 4 May 2021 - Teams will be allowed to
select a 26-player squad instead of 23 at this summer's delayed European
Championship Finals. The change has been implemented to lessen the load on
players after a club season compressed because of the coronavirus
pandemic. It will also help managers adapt if outbreaks occur during the
tournament.
Tuesday, 25 May 2021 - Gareth Southgate
has selected a 33-man provisional squad for the 2020 European
Championship Finals to join up this weekend for preparations for the
Tournament starting next month. There are first call-ups for Aaron
Ramsdale, goalkeeper at relegated Sheffield United, and two defenders,
Ben Godfrey and Brighton's Ben White. There is also a recall for
Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold. But there is still no place for
Leeds United's inform striker, Patrick Bamford.
Saturday, 29 May
2021 - The England squad, with the exception of the Manchester
City and Chelsea players, who are participating in the Champions
League Final in Porto, arrive at their North-East training base in
Hurworth-on-Tees. Their facilities, at Rockcliffe Hall, is the training
base of Middlesbrough FC.
Sunday, 30 May 2021 & Monday, 31 May 2021 -
The England squad, excluding those players in the Champions
League, are involved in training in the sunshine at Rockcliffe. Those
missing players will join up with the squad on Friday and will
probably miss the match against Romania.
Tuesday, 1 June
2021 - Manchester United have confirmed that Mason Greenwood
has withdrawn from the provisional squad due to an underlying injury.
Twenty of the squad are out training at Rockcliffe. Jadon Sancho
misses out because of a throat infection.
5.00pm - With usual pomp and
ceremony, the European Championship squad is revealed, along with the
squad numbers. The six losing out are the three debutant call-ups
Aaron Ramsdale, Ben Godfrey and Ben White, as well Jesse Lingard,
James Ward-Prowse and Ollie Watkins.
Wednesday, 2 June 2021 - Early team
news confirms that Jordan Henderson will not start tonight, but will
be involved at some point. Jadon Sancho is still poorly with a throat
infection. Southgate also confirms that Jack Grealish's workload needs
to be managed. England 1 Austria 0 -
England's countdown to the Euro's continued with a narrow win
over Austria at Riverside Stadium - but they suffered an injury
setback as Liverpool defender Trent Alexander Arnold limped off late
on. Southgate saw his experimental side secure victory when Arsenal
teenager Bukayo Saka crowned a fine move with an angled finish for his
first international goal after 56 minutes. Southgate's main concern is
the injury picked up by Terence Trent-Arnold towards the end.
Thursday, 3 June
2021 - It has now confirmed that the injury received by Terence
Alexander-Arnold towards the end of last night's match was a tear inn
his thigh muscle, ruling him out of the 2020 European Championship
Finals. Southgate will not confirm his replacement until after
Sunday's friendly match. The Manchester United players, Harry
Maguire, Luke Shaw, Dean Henderson and Marcus Rashford, have joined
up with the England players at Rockcliffe Park.
Sunday, 6 June
2021 - England 1 Romania 0 - England concluded their
preparations for the Euros with a victory. Gareth Southgate once again
selected an experimental starting XI which included three players who
are not named in the final squad, White, Godfrey and Ward-Prowse.
England posed the greater attacking threat with both Dominic Calvert-Lewin
and Jadon Sancho hitting the crossbar in the first half, before Marcus
Rashford put them ahead from the penalty spot in the 68th minute after
another foul on Jack Grealish. Sam Johnstone won his first cap in goal
with a sound performance. Jordan Henderson appeared for the second
half for his first senior football since February, but failed to
convert a penalty-kick that was awarded following a foul on Dominic
Calvert-Lewin.
Monday, 7 June 2021 -
Brighton defender Ben White has been called up to replace
Trent Alexander-Arnold on England's Euro 2020 squad. The 23-year old
made his debut in last week's 1-0 friendly win over Austria, the same
match in which Alexander-Arnold was injured. White started alongside
Mings in yesterday's victory over Romania. Gareth Southgate took his
time to decide which of his standby players would come in as a
replacement. White had never been involved in an England squad at any
level before his recent call-up to the senior side.
Tuesday, 8 June 2021 - Shortly after
arriving back at basecamp, St. George's Park, each of the 26 players
in the squad receive a commemorative legacy cap to mark their unique
place in England's history. The cap, is red, with their 'legacy'
number on the rim.
Wednesday, 9 June 2021 - Their is a
full training session for 25 of the squad. Harry Maguire continuing to
do a personal session in the gym.
Thursday, 10 June 2021 - All 26 members of the squad are
involved in today's training session.
Saturday, 12 June 2021 - Dean
Henderson is the only member of the squad not involved in training
today. Harry Maguire was involved in training but still seems unlikely
to feature against Croatia tomorrow. the evening's press conference
featuring Gareth Southgate and Harry Kane has been postponed in light
of the tragic incident involving Christian Eriksen in the Denmark vs.
Finland match, only moments before the appointed time in front of the
media.
