All
information is complete to and including England's last match, the twelfth
of the 2021-22 season, against Italy on 11 June 2022.
Diary
Tuesday, 29 March 2022 - The draw
for the league phase of the 2022-23 UEFA Nations League has pitted the
Euro 2020 finalists Italy and England against each other, together
with Germany and Hungary.
Tuesday, 24 May 2022 -
Gareth Southgate chooses his 27-man squad for next weeks Nations
League preliminary
matches.
There is a first call-up for Leicester City defender James Justin, and
West Ham United's winger Jarrod Bowen. Kieran Trippier and Kalvin
Phillips return after
injury. Fikayo Tomori and Kyle Walker also return. However, Southgate has dropped
Jordan Henderson, Tyrone Mings, Tyrick Mitchell, Luke Shaw, Emile Smith Rowe,
Ollie Watkins and Kyle Walker-Peters.
Monday, 30 May 2022 - Arsenal
defender Ben White has withdrawn from the England squad due to injury
and will continue rehabilitation with his club. Most of the squad
begin arriving at St. George's Park this afternoon, with the exception
of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Raheem Sterling, Kieran Tripper and James
Ward-Prowse, who arrive tomorrow. Twenty of the players begin
training, with Marc Guéhi and Fikayo Tomori working on individual
programmes indoors.
Tuesday, 31 May
2022 - The Nations League match between Hungary and England in
Budapest on Saturday will have at least 30,000 fans in attendance -
despite the fixture being held behind closed doors. Under Article 73
of the UEFA regulation, school children up to the age of fourteen can
be invited to the match free of charge...if accompanied by an adult.
MLSZ have confirmed 30,000 children have registered.
Friday, 3 June 2022 - 23 of the players
are involved in today's training session, with Marc Guéhi
continuing to work on individual programme indoors. Phil Foden is
absent because of testing positive for CoVid. Foden has left camp, but
should return for the match against Italy. Centre-backs Marc Guéhi and Fikayo Tomori
miss out because of minor injuries. The remaining squad leave
for Budapest in the afternoon, Raheem Sterling is a doubt because of
illness.
Saturday, 4 June 2022
- Hungary 1 England 0 -
England's Nations League campaign got off to a losing start as a
disappointing display brought a deserved defeat by Hungary in
Budapest. The international was billed as taking place behind closed
doors, yet it was played in front of a large crowd made up of 30,000
schoolchildren. It was a poor England performance and Dominik
Szoboslai's winning goal from the penalty spot after Reece James
fouled Zsolt Nagy. The start of the game was overshadowed by the loud
jeering of England players as they took the knee. Jarrod Bowen worked
hard on his debut, and James Justin suffered an injury and was
replaced at half-time, in an otherwise jaded performance.
Sunday, 5 June
2022 - The England 25-man squad arrive at their new base in Giesing, Germany,
The Säbener Straße ground, the training ground of FC Bayern München.
Monday, 6 June 2022 - Shortly
after James Justin and Jarrod Bowen receive their legacy caps, 24 of
the 25 players are out training in The Säbener Straße.
James Justin, who picked up a calf injury on Saturday is working
indoors and is a doubt for tomorrow night's match. Fikayo Tomori will
also miss out.
Tuesday, 7 June 2022 - Germany 1 England 1 - Harry Kane's late
penalty gave England a Nations League draw in Germany and became the
second player to score fity goals for England. Kane sent his opposing
captain Manuel Neuer the wrong with the spot kick two minutes from
time, as VAR ruled that he had been brought down by Nico Schlotterbeck.
The goal gave England their first point in the tournament after going
behind to Jonas Hofmann's 50th minute shot.
Wednesday, 8 June
2022 - The England party arrive back at St. George's Park and
are straight back in training in preparation for the match against
Italy at Wolverhampton on Saturday. Trent Alexander-Arnold, as
pre-arranged, has returned to his club.
Thursday, 9 June 2022 - Training
continues at St. George's Park, and the goalkeepers have an extra
hand, as former goalkeeper David Seaman makes a visit.
Friday, 10 June
2022 - Training continues with 24 players out at St. George's
Park. Kalvin Phillips is working indoors on a personal programme.
Saturday, 11 June 2022 - England 0
Italy 0 - England's winless start to their Nations League
campaign continued as an experimental Three Lions side failed to break
down the European Champions Italy in a goalless draw in Wolverhampton.
The game was played behind closed doors as a punishment for the chaos
that ensued around the Euro 2020 Final at Wembley. Several thousand
excitable schoolchildren in attendance did provide England a lively
backdrop and almost got the goal they craved when Mason Mount crashed
an effort against the crossbar. Raheem Sterling also skewed a glorious
opportunity over from close range from Reece James' whipped delivery
after the break. But the hosts also needed goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale
to be alert on several occasions to stop Italy inflicting another
defeat. England remain bottom of Group A3 with two points in three
games.
Sunday, 12 June 2022 -
The England team were out training at Sir Jack Hayward Training Ground
in Wolverhampton.
Monday, 13 June 2022 - All 25
members of the England party are training in Wolverhampton. There will
be a late fitness check on the availability of Phil Foden tomorrow. He
and Conor Gallagher are the only two outfield players yet to appear in
this months matches.
