    Match Report by Glen Isherwood

Scotland had lost on their last three visits to Wembley but now needed only a point to win the British Championship outright for the first time since 1929. England's 2-1 defeat by Wales at Molineux meant that they had to beat Scotland to win the title.

After half an hour, Bastin dribbled his way along the touchline and put in a great cross which left George Camsell with the simple task of beating Dawson from close range. England held this lead until the 76th minute. Crum was brought down in the box by Hapgood and Tommy Walker made no mistake from the penalty to give Scotland the Championship and end their run of defeats at Wembley.

IN OTHER NEWS...

It was on 3 April 1936 that Richard Hauptmann was executed by electric chair at the New Jersey State Prison. He had been convicted of the murder of the twenty-month-old son of Charles Lindbergh, who, in 1927, had become the first person to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, and acquired worldwide fame as a result. Although the child had been abducted and killed, a ransom was paid and it was two months before the child's body was found. Hauptmann was arrested, two years later, tried and convicted.
