    Match Report

BRUSSELS, May 9.--Belgium beat England by three goals to two at the Heysel Stadium this evening after being a goal down at half-time. A victory for Belgium was generally considered to be out of the question, but after giving a fine display in the first half England were obviously a tired side. The team, too, were disorganized by injuries, Barkas, a half-back, taking Bastin's place at inside-left.

There were about 30,000 people present when Hapgood won the toss...

A long throw-in by Crayston sent the ball into the goal-mouth, and Camsell scored, the ball going in after striking the crossbar...

...Isenborgs scored...

...within the space of three minutes Isenborgs and Fievez gave Belgium a 3-1 lead. England's forwards tried their utmost to get going, and eventually Crayston started a movement which resulted in Hobbis reducing the deficit after beating several defenders.--Reuter. - The Times - Monday 11th May, 1936

IN OTHER NEWS...

It was on 9 May 1936 that a 24-year-old prostitute, Connie Hinds was found dead in her bed in Soho, having been strangled and with her face brutally smashed in by an iron. She was the third Soho prostitute to be strangled in six months, but no one was ever brought to justice for any of the murders.
