substitute
notes: |
Tottenham Hotspur FC are the first club to have provided thirty
players as England substitutes. Peter Beardsley is now equal with
Bryan Robson in being pelaced as a substitute in thirteen matches,
still three behind Chris Waddle. Peter Shilton again breaks his own
record in being the oldest player to be replaced by a substitute, he
is also now the most expereinced player to be replaced. This is just the seventh match in
which England have used four substitutions. |
captaincy
notes: |
Bobby Robson gave
Peter Shilton the opportunity to captain the side to mark the
record-breaking occasion. Shilton refused the token in favour of his
usual captain, Bryan Robson. |
team
notes: |
Peter Shilton's 109th appearance is a new England record, replacing
Bobby Moore. For the first time since 1974-75, England complete
a season unbeaten. |

Match Report
by Norman Giller |
Gary Lineker fired
England into the lead in the twenty-ninth minute in a match staged to
celebrate 100 years of Danish football. Denmark equalised early in the
second-half, the first goal conceded
by Peter Shilton in six matches as he set a new England caps record in his
109th appearance before making way for David Seaman as both managers made the
agreed maximum of four substitutions.
