Saturday, 30 November 2003 - The Finals draw in Lisbon places England in Group B alongside France, Croatia and Switzerland.

Monday, 17 May 2004 - Sven-Göran Eriksson announces his 24-man squad, 23 of which will go on to Portugal as England's official European Championship Finals squad. Jermain Defoe is the one extra member, who will remain on standby to the England squad for the forthcoming tournament.

Tuesday, 18 May 2004 - Emile Heskey signs for Birmingham City. But the deal is not effective until 1 July. Heskey remains a Liverpool player for the forthcoming Finals.

Friday, 4 June 2004 - John Terry pulls out of the squad after he picked up a hamstring injury. He will definitely miss the match against Iceland and likely miss the start of the Finals tournament.

Monday, 14 June 2004 - Nicky Butt pulls up in training with medial ligament damage, he is to miss the rest of the tournament.
