Diary

Thursday, 12 June 2008 - England will open their 2009-10 campaign with a friendly against Netherlands in Amsterdam on August 12 next year. As part of the deal, Netherlands will come to Wembley in August 2011.

Friday, 5 August 2011 - Manchester United defender Phil Jones has been included in England's provisional 30-man squad for the friendly with Netherlands next Wednesday.  Jones, 19, moved from Blackburn to United for £17m in June, having played only one season in the Premier League.  There is still no place in the squad for former captain David Beckham, despite his impressive recent performances for LA Galaxy.  Manager Fabio Capello is due to reduce the squad to 23 players this weekend.  The provisional squad is not formally announced. The Football Association simply call all the players included, and their clubs, to ensure they are available for England duty.

Sunday, 7 August 2011 - Danny Welbeck has been named in England's 25-man squad for the friendly with Netherlands next Wednesday. The 20-year-old is selected ahead of Aston Villa's Darren Bent and Tottenham's Jermain Defoe as Fabio Capello's fourth striking option.  Bent had pulled out of the squad before its announcement due to a shoulder injury. Arsenal's Jack Wilshere is also included despite an ankle injury.  Manchester United's Phil Jones did not make the squad despite reports he had been included on Friday.  Liverpool's Glen Johnson has been forced out by injury however, after he limped out of the Merseysiders' 2-0 friendly win over Valencia.  Tottenham's Kyle Walker and Manchester City's Micah Richards may deputise in his absence, while centre-back Phil Jagielka has been deployed in the position on the last two occasions Johnson has been missing.

Monday, 8 August 2011 - Manchester United's midfielder Tom Cleverley earns his first call-up into the squad following the withdrawals of Michael Carrick, Jack Wilshere and Frank Lampard.  Carrick has an achilles problem and Wilshere is ruled out with an ankle injury. Lampard withdraws because of a throat infection.

Tuesday, 9 August 2011 - Due to disturbances and rioting in London over the weekend, the Football Association, together with the Metropolitan Police, have decided to postpone this fixture, before the Dutch squad boarded their plane in Amsterdam.
