against Sweden on 15 November 2011.
Diary
Saturday,
3 December 2011
- England will take on
World Cup runners-up Netherlands in a rearranged friendly at Wembley in
February. The Football Association today confirmed the new date for
the match, which was due to be played in August but was postponed due
to the riots which were sweeping London at the time.
Club England managing director
Adrian Bevington also confirmed plans for another couple of fixtures
as part of England's preparations. 'Two games at end of season being
finalised - away and home before euros,' Bevington wrote on his
official Twitter site.
Tuesday,
28 February
2012 - Right-back Glen Johnson is the latest player to withdraw from the
England squad. Stuart Pearce has called up Joleon Lescott as his
replacement from Manchester City.
Monday,
27 February
2012 - Kyle Walker, the
Tottenham Hotspur defender, is the latest player to withdraw from
Stuart Pearce's squad. He suffered an ankle injury in his side's
defeat to Arsenal yesterday and has failed to recover.
Meanwhile,
Darren Bent has been ruled out for up to three months after rupturing
ankle ligaments. It is a huge blow to the 28-year-old's hopes of
playing for England at Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine. Bent is
unlikely to be available until the end of May with the European
Championship kicking off in June. Bent landed awkwardly
following a challenge from Antolin Alcaraz during the second half at
the DW Stadium and left the ground wearing a protective boot.
Sunday,
26 February
2012 - Wayne Rooney and Tom
Cleverley have joined Darren Bent in being ruled out of the friendly
match against the Netherlands. Rooney has been suffering from a
throat infection that has yet to clear up. And fellow Manchester
United team-mate, Cleverley, has not yet recovered from the ankle
injury he picked up in United's Europa League defeat at the hands of
Ajax on Thursday night.
Saturday,
25 February
2012 - Darren Bent has been
ruled out of England's friendly against the Netherlands after injuring
his ankle in Aston Villa's goalless draw at Wigan. Bent landed
awkwardly following a challenge from Antolin Alcaraz during the second
half at the DW Stadium and left the pitch on a stretcher. The
28-year-old later left the ground wearing a protective boot. "He
was in agony in the dressing room," said Villa manager Alex McLeish.
"He is certainly out of the England squad." Bent received
lengthy treatment on the pitch and McLeish fears his forward could be
set for a long spell on the sidelines.
Thursday,
23 February
2012 - Caretaker manager Stuart Pearce has announced his first squad for
the upcoming friendly with Netherlands at Wembley next Wednesday. The
squad includes uncapped Fraizer Campbell and Tom Cleverley. Sunderland
striker Campbell is receiving his first ever call-up, whilst Cleverley was
picked for the postponed Dutch match in August 2011.
Manchester City's Micah Richards
returns, as does Liverpool's Steven Gerrard. Rio Ferdinand and
Frank Lampard have not been included. John Terry has also been left
out, through injury.
