According to the 1891 census, Reginald G. is the youngest of four children to John Dowson and Louisa Gertrude (née Freeman), they live at Ash Grove, on Kirkleatham Street in Coatham, with his mother's parents, William and Martha, and two servants. His father is a blast furnace manager.

 

According to the 1901 census, Reginald G., an apprentice engineer, lives at home with his parents and his three older siblings, his grandparents and two servants, at 23 Teresa Terrace, on the Coatham Road. His father remains a blast furnace manager.
"Mr John D. Williamson, of Coatham, has just undertaken the management of Lackenby blast-furnaces. Mr Williamson was for many years manager of Cargo Fleet Ironworks." - The Herald, Saturday, 11 April 1908

 

According to the 1911 census, Reginald, a footballer, along with his three older siblings, Cecil, Louisa Hilda and Harriet, live at home with their parents, John and Louisa, now at 27 Teresa Terrace.

 

His father died in the 1919 summer.
According to the 1921 census, Reginald, still a professional footballer (for Middlesbrough AFC), and still one of the four siblings living at 28 Teresa Terrace with their widowed mother.
The North Yorkshire Electoral Registers puts Reginald and Louisa at 6 Teresa Terrace from 1928 until 1934
His mother died in mid-1929.

  According to the 1939 register, Reginald G., a draughtsman at the local steelworks, is still unmarried and and is living with his sisters, Louisa H.A. and Irene H.L., at 188 Coatham Road in Redcar, where the North Yorkshire Electoral Registers state he they lived since 1935.
Death Sunday, 1 August 1943, in North Ormesby Hospital, Middlesbrough, North Riding of Yorkshire. Living at 188 Coatham Road at the time.

Playing Career

Williamson played as a centre-forward at Coatham Grammar School and continued his career with Redcar Juniors FC and Redcar Crusaders FC. Then, in January 1902
"He played for a Redcar amateur team one morning and was recruited in an emergency to keep goal for Middlesbrough the same afternoon."...and he remained in goal for the Teesside club for 21 years.
  "The directors of the Middlesbrough F.C. yesterday honoured their tried and trusted servant, Reginald ('Tim') Williamson, who during the season just closed completed 21 years on the club's books. The Chairman of the Board (Mr. Philip Bach) handed over a cheque for £1,000 [2025 equivalent £51,249], the sum guaranteed in respect of Williamson's recent benefit, and then asked his acceptance of a silver tea and coffee service and tray as a particular mark of the Board's admiration." - The Northern Daily Mail, Friday, 18 May 1923
  Williamson retired in May 1924, after his club placed him on the free transfer list.
