Diary
Thursday, 20
March 2008 -
The FA confirm that England will play
friendlies against United States on Wednesday 28 May, and Czech Republic on Wednesday 20
August, with both games at Wembley. Bob Bradley's United States will visit Wembley in May
for the third friendly of Fabio Capello's reign as England manager, while Czech
Republic will provide the final warm-up ahead of the first World Cup Qualifier
in September.
Saturday, 16
August
2008 - Fabio Capello
has named a 22-man squad for his final friendly before the World Cup qualifiers
begin, with Czech Republic the opponents at Wembley on Wednesday evening.
Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart keeps his place in the senior
squad having earned his first cap as a substitute in the last England match -
away to Trinidad and Tobago. Emile Heskey is included having missed out
through injury after being selected in Fabio Capello's first squad ahead of the
friendly with Switzerland. Portsmouth forward Jermain Defoe is also in the squad
having bagged a brace during England's last outing. West Ham United
forward Dean Ashton has not been selected due to injury.
Sunday, 17
August
2008 - Michael Carrick has been forced
to pull out through injury. The playmaker had to be substituted during
Manchester United's draw with Newcastle United today with an ankle problem that
will keep him out for two to three weeks. Tottenham Hotspur midfielder
Jermaine Jenas has been called up as replacement.
Monday, 18 August
2008 - Jonathan Woodgate was the only
England player to miss training today as the squad prepared for the friendly on
Wednesday. The 28-year-old defender was excused a session at Arsenal's
London Colney facilities because of his history of fitness problems.
However, he will be fit to play and all the other England players trained as
normal for coach Fabio Capello.
